Chipper Jones named player-manager in 2011...
If you ask me, much has been said about how astute Chipper Jones is about the game. He would be an accepted candidate for manager replacement after the 2010 season. As player-manager, he could play when needed and manage all season. There are many players that take advantage of his knowledge now, think how this would be enhanced in a managerial roll. If he were named this at the start of the 2010 season, Bobby could groom him for the position.

i’m not buying the whole retirement next year talk..i say he has a good 2-3 years left..
plus i doubt he’d be willing to step in as a manager right after he retires from playing, he’s already mentioned how wants to be with his family and coach his boys up when they start baseball
My expectation is health permitting, he will have a bounceback year in 2010 with a much higher batting average and a continuation of power numbers similar to what he’s done the last 2-3 seasons; and based on that, he will be back in 2011.
Also, Wren is going to bring in an experienced, long term solution as the replacement for Bobby.
or Pendleton…..

he has intimated that he wants to put his stamp on the team and would go get his guy. which certainly isnt TP (nothing against TP). I bet Wren goes outside the org, if its not Chipper or another former player (which i don’t think will happen anyways)
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

How many player/managers have there been...
in the last 30 years? Has there been one other than Pete Rose since the 70s ended?
Seems like Pete Rose was the last
And I wanna say Frank Robinson before that, if that tells you anything.
Upon investigation, Don Kessinger spent part of 1979 doing it with the White Sox, and Joe Torre actually tried his hand at it back in the day as well. Definitely hasn’t happened in almost a quarter century though.

I've never really understood all the Chipper manager talk
He is one of the great clubhouse presences as a veteran, but he has never expressed interest in managing.
If anything, he has made it clear he wants to relax on his ranch, and spend time with his family. Don’t expect any coaching from him in the next 5 to 10 years.

Interesting Idea However !
Just something the Braves organization wouldn’t do. I mean we have put alot of great players in the minors managing and they still have not made it up to the big league club. Alot of them such as Blauser are not managing at all as far as I know.
Chipper as a manager hmmm, nice idea to see it but I just don’t think Chipper would be interested.
Eddie Perez is the man for the job !! That is who I am rooting for !!
