Pujols hates the Braves
If the Braves end up losing the Wild Card to Colorado by a game this year, blame Albert Pujols.
Watching the ninth inning of the Cards-Rockies game today was liking watching God pull the rug out from under us Braves fans just for kicks. First, an ump blows a call where Skip Schumacher was safe at first by a mile to give Colorado a free out (would have been 2 on none out), though Lugo did get to second on the play. Of course Pujols gets walked. Lugo steals third during Ludwick's at-bat, then Ludwick wallops a ball to mid-right field that Barmes goes out and dives for. He makes the catch, and Lugo could have tagged and scored easy, but Pujols took off for second instead of making sure the ball dropped, so it turned into a gimme-gimme double play for Colorado. Game Over.
So what could've, and should've, been a 1.5 game deficit is now still 2.5. Thanks Pujols. We all know you guys have clinched already, but we'd all appreciate if you'd still play real baseball instead of baserunning like a retarded monkey. Some of us are still in the hunt here.

Very Funny. I watched that game as well and it was very hard to take.

Pujols DID blow this game
Good observation

I mean, I’ll be honest- the Cards all around played pretty sloppy today, like they don’t give a crap now that they’ve clinched. But they still had the makings of a rally going on in the 9th, down by only a run, and blew it with stupid baserunning. Schumaker probably gets the call if he doesn’t slide into first, and the tying run would have scored if Pujols had gone halfway on the flyball, instead of rounding second. Don’t they teach that from, o I dunno, Little League on?
The first base ump should take plenty of heat for this one too. If you get a chance to see the play, Skip was safe by a mile, and teh ump just flat missed it. Skip sliding in is no excuse for an ump blowing a call.
Yeah, on that play...
The third base runner retreats to the base because if the ball drops, he can walk home. The first base runner should go half way. But yeah, just poor baserunning.

Are you kidding me?
I thought Pujols was the ONLY f’ing Cardinal to drive in runs today. Yeah, he totally hates the Braves!
Did you just watch the 9th inning or something?

I dont’ think Pujols hates the Braves. It was just a crazy game especially for Pujols. He had a bases loaded clearing double at the beginning of the game. Then he struck out with the bases loaded and one out in the next inning (they ended up not scoring). Then he botched a slow rolling grounder to first. That runner scored and tied the game and they took the lead in that inning. Then in the 9th that was kind of a stupid base running play. He must have thought there were 2 outs or something the way he was rounding for third. But hey the Braves just need to take care of business and hopefully the brew crew will come in and help us out against the Rockies.
The one thing i think the Rockies do have going for them is they play the Dodgers the last series of the year and we play the Nationals. You might be thinking that i meant the braves have that going for them… no. I think it might be a benefit to play the Dodgers the last series of the year because by that time they will probably have clinched the division and best record in the NL so then they will probably play their scrubs for the last series. Where as the Nationals will be playing hard to try to ruin our hopes of going to the postseason. EVERY game here on out should be like a one game elimination playoff game for the braves.

So have you considered the fact that the Dodgers' "scrubs" are better than any lineup the Nats can field?
Remember when the Panthers had a good offensive line? Yeah, me too.

i don’t know. I guess i just don’t like playing a team that has nothing to play for so they pull out anything to try to upset another teams chances. I think zimmerman and dunn are always scary up there. The only pitcher i’m worried about really is D.Lowe facing the nationals again. He wiggled out it today only giving up 3 runs. Next time he might not be so fortunate.

So if your allegation is that the Dodgers will have clinched...
Won’t they (the scrubs, one presumes), too, have nothing to play for so they’ll pull out anything to try to upset another team’s chances (the Rockies?)

It's not like that run would have decided the game.
It’d still have been tied, with two outs, and a man on first. No guarantee the Braves go on to score an additional run in that scenario, and definitely no guarantee they win the game, especially with the meat of the Rockies’ order due up in the bottom half of the 9th. And of course, as was mentioned, Pujols was really the only one who did anything for the Cards all day, so you certainly can’t blame him for that one play when he was responsible for the 3 runs they did get.
As far as a blown call by the umps…well, if it weren’t for the umps the Cards probably don’t win the game they actually did, so at best it balanced out(though not even close, IMO).

If the Braves don’t make the playoffs, it will because they didn’t play well enough the whole season, not because of something stupid a player on another team did in a game they weren’t even playing in.

Let me ask
If you were the Cardinals and you have clinched, why would you help the hottest team in baseball get to the playoffs where they could sweep or beat you in general while on their hot streak. Just playing Devils advocate.
Do you know why Buster Olney's initials are BO, because he stinks
If I'm the Cardinals
I’m some minor leaguer, who is going to bust my balls and play as hard as I can after they lift Pujols, Holliday, and any of their other starters, and give me the privilege to play 2-3 garbage innings in hopes that I do something good and/or prove to the always-watching scouting eyes of the baseball world that I’m good enough to become a major league player.
I don’t care if it is coming at the expense of a potential Cinderella, the Nationals or a division rival, because when the day is over, my life and future well-being is more important than the fate of my team, or another team(s), because there is never any fault with playing your hardest, no matter the circumstances.
Tanking games deliberately to hope to miss another team in the playoffs is absurd. You don’t see the Yankees tanking games against the Angels, in hopes they’ll avoid them in the ALDS because the Angels have owned them in the playoffs since 2002. No, they played hard and took the series, and in all likelihood will face them again in the ALDS, where they’ll hope not to embarrass themselves to the world.
Tanking games deliberately to hope to miss another team is also cheating the fans, who pay to see a competitive game every time they go to the park. The Cardinals aren’t thinking about playoff opponents, or “helping” others – they’re just doing their job, and playing baseball.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
I know this is a tricky concept, but baseball players don’t like losing, no matter when it is.

this
is what im sayin. Most of these guys have played baseball since they were 5 years old. They’re too good and have too much respect for the game to wanna give up and lose on purpose.

haha wow… Thats pretty crazy. So pujols would have been on third with one out and the game tied. oh well… if you watch the post game interview with barmes i think he knew he didn’t catch it, but didn’t want to come out and say it

I forgot what play it was but Pujols was rolling around like a beached whale
He played sloppy in the All Star game and his response was oh well home field doesn’t mean that much.
The Brewers will play to win against Colorado, but the pitching can be really good or more often pretty bad. Gallordo is shut down. Bush is the real klinker. He sucked against the Phils. He’s a fan favorite!
As the NFL guys for ESPN would say..
“C’mon man!’ if the Dogers get swept and the rocks win than Mannywood will actually try and beat the living snot out of them and if the Rocks get swept by the dodgers and we sweep both marlins and nationals than the wild card is ours
