I hope not.

The article states:

"The Braves have worked hard to try to improve the game-day experience for fans. But the bottom line numbers won’t reflect that this year. According to announced attendance figures — and I stress the word announced — the Braves have averaged 29,300 in 69 home games, with 12 to go. That is tracking to be a record low for the team at Turner Field, just below the 29,399 they drew in 2004."

There is a chart at the link.

Somebody posted on the AJC article’s comments that college football started and that’s more important than the Braves. I don’t think so, but I’m a baseball fan and a Braves fan. I gave my seaon tix for last night to a friend and he said they had a great time and it was a great game. They sat in the lower deck too, the ushers didn’t care. I’ve been there several times this year and attendance has been an up and down deal, mostly down. What pissed me off was the interleague play, there were more Red Sox fans than Braves fans. I guess most fans are fair weather fans, but that applies to more cities than Atlanta. I wished more people showed up, but it doesn’t seem to be a priority unless the Braves are in the playoffs. Hell, it’s more fun when the Braves do a Forrest Gump,“The Braves are like a boxachoclatts, ya neva know what ya gonna gett.”

Senator, we have another old saying,"Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining." Fletcher

Absolutely.

Hell, it hasn't been a priority when they've BEEN in the playoffs.

Not for the last few years we were, at least.

Economy, maybe?

I’m sure it’s not the whole answer…, but come on…That has to have an impact on what one might call superfluous spending. I love the Braves and all, but I also have to pay for college, rent, food…

It certainly has a lot to do with it, IMO.

Spring to add a retractable roof. And watch attendance slowly rise. Otherwise, it’s just a rainy night in Georgia.

Spend money to make money. People won’t be so quick to say, “It’s probly going to rain anyways.”

I don't think the cost of a roof is worth the five to ten games a year it would effect.

THe economy. Just look at the numbers for the Yankees. They’re going to win 100 games and they are down half a million for the year and roughly 7,000 per game.

There's also those ridiculous ticket prices at NYS.

Yeah. It was funny to see the pics of that empty block of $2,500 seats.

Major factor

For no inexplicable reason, day-of-game ticket sales have as little as a $2 additional surcharge added onto them this year. This has never been done prior to this year. The price gauging during the Yankees and Red Sox series was borderline criminal (starting with $18 general admission, up from $6), and the cost of tickets overall has gone up noticeably from just two years ago. Rationale I’ve been given is that the reward is much greater for season ticket holders, but a team whose fanbase is reliant on walk-ups, this is not a good way to keep people coming back.

Also, this year has been super stingy with gate giveaways. Last year had four hats, four t-shirts, four bobbleheads, two bats, rally flags, and all sorts of generic crap given away, but the fact is, that it does draw people, especially the collectors and ebayers. This year has seen four repeat hats, and a bat, off the top of my head. And also, due to the early falling out of contention, there were more promotional nights like dollar hot dogs, which really brought out all of Georgia State and Georgia Tech.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

I was surprised when I read the article because of all the “promotions” that were advertised all during the games I watched this year, both with Peachtree and SportsSouth.

I don’t recall seeing so much “come out to the ballgame” kind of comments during the games in years past. I was hoping they were being successful in the promotions but the numbers don’t seem to be showing that.

Being in NC and not able to travel to a game but every couple of years or so, I sure envy those of you that can go often. Thank goodness for at least living in the South and the ability to get so many games on TV.

Wow. Do I get a gold star or something?
I had no idea “front page” was a goal. Cool!
