Gwinnett Braves Playoff Recap: Gwinnett 8, Scranton WB 5
In game 3 Gwinnett managed to get some offense and at the very least take one game in the series.
On the day he was named Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year, Jason Heyward was a big factor in the game. He had a 2 run single in the 3rd inning (which saw the Braves score 5). He also walked 3 times and scored 3 runs to go along with a K. Not a bad outing at all. Diory Hernandez also chipped in with 3 hits on the night, with a double 3 RBI.
Bobby Brownlie got the start for Gwinnett but he didn't make it out of the 3rd inning after allowing 4 runs all off of 2 HRs he gave up. The bullpen came in, however, and pitched 6.1 innings allowing only 1 run on 3 hits.
The series will pick back up tomorrow night with Jonny Venters taking the mound for Gwinnett and Zach McAllister toeing the rubber for the Yankees. McAllister has been pretty solid year and the Braves could have a tough time scoring runs against him. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

A question about Jason Heyward
Jason is a lefty as everyone knows, but how is his hitting against LHP? I’ve never read or seen anything that says if he’s good, bad, decent, etc.
Anyone know?

I’ve seen him be dominated a few times by lefties out of the pen. Watching him, I feel like he’ll be a decent hitter against lefties, but I also feel like he might be prone to LOOGYs out of the pen. Especially guys with sliders, that was the pitch that really seemed to baffle him from a lefty.

I was at game 2 of the playoffs and he had a bad AB late in the game against a little lefty reliever throwing off-speed breaking pitches down and away. He waved at the 1st two and then nubbed the third out about 40-50 feet out toward the mound for an easy 1-3 out.

Thanks for asking this
because the answer is really encouraging. Here are the career splits:
vs. LHP .357/.434 (!!!!!!)/.533/.967
vs. RHP .309/.380/.502/.882
really sick stuff.
Mat Gamel is way too cool for double consonants.

Everyone who thinks Diory Hernandez sucks needs to be paying attention to these games. He had a great year with Gwinnett and is tearing up the playoffs. He’s a fine baseball player who simply wasn’t ready to play in the Majors when he was called up this year. I doubt he’ll ever be a plus regular in the Majors, but he will definitely be able to play up there.

That’s a pretty good comparison. I don’t think he’s as good a hitter, but he’s a lot more athletic.

Odd thing about Prado is that he’s been better in the majors than in the minors.
