Game 140 Recap: Braves 9, Astros 7
The Braves win a series and they bounce back after that crushing defeat last night... and they did it with OFFENSE! The night got started right with a Nate McLouth leadoff homer. Yunel Escobar, moved up to the second spot in the lineup, had three hits and scored three times. Brian McCann broke out of his funk with a 4-hit night.
The Braves chased the Astros starter, Roy Oswalt, after just two innings of work, allowing 6 runs. Braves starter Derek Lowe did not have a good start, but he was the beneficiary of the surprising offense explosion.
Chipper Jones had a hit, but he also collected his 19th and 20th errors on the season.
Mike Gonzalez closed this one out, and of course, made it interesting. He brought the tying run to the plate in the form of slugger Carlos Lee, but got him to ground into a double play to end the game.

I think it’s worth noting we have as many wins now as we did all of last year.

Meaning that if they play .500 ball the rest of the way, they’ll have the same record as in 2007. That would be an improvement over last year.
interesting point

Can’t stand the Steelers either. Good thing that I started the Titans D on my fantasy team tonight. Racked up some nice points. Four sacks, a pair of interceptions, a fumble recovery… can’t fault the Titans for lack of effort.

Sooo
We won?
Good game. We gained some ground on the Phillies and just kept pace with the Rockies.
Seems as though Diaz has cooled off rather instantly
At the game tonight
Cashed in the military discount, bought tickets and a tank of gas and drove to Houston for the game tonight. Man, it was a whoopin’. I think they batted around in both the first and second innings, ending Oswalt’s day abruptly. 1/2 of the fans at Minute Maid Park were Braves fans, so it was nice seeing them delivering to the pseudo-home field. Hanson was getting the most autograph requests, and he didn’t turn anyone down, class act. Chipper, on the other hand, moped-around and just seemed bored the entire game. I didnt even see him take the field for warm-ups. Overall, good hustle from the rest of the Braves and glad to see we finally won a series.
Oswalt wasn't on his game
I was surprised at all the hits everyone had last nighty. Not going to get too excited though, Astros pitching wasn’t the best. We’ll see how they do against the Cards, they might do OK,but I’m not getting my hopes up. Done that too much already this year just to have them dashed by the Braves’ offense. They jumped all over a pitcher who couldn’t make it through the 2nd inning, not all that impressive really and we still gave up 7 runs ourselves, man I thought Gonzo was going to lose it there and had to get up and go get a snack, I couldn’t watch them lose again, but gonzo pulled it off.

It's great that we got a win,
but it’s ultimately insignificant and the wrong line score is posted with this game recap.

Games like this is why I keep watching. I figure that this team can’t go on scoring 1 or 2 runs all the time. Let’s hope this continues through the weekend.
I'm hopeful too
Let’s hope they can keep it up. It was nice to see KJ in there last night and getting some AB’s plus Mclouth getting it done. I want to see some good games before the 4th of Oct.

Is anybody besides me worried about Chipper going forward?
His defense has been AWFUL this year and his offensive stats are WAY BELOW the average levels for a 3rd basemen.
Also,
McCann is the best catcher in the league, but he should not be hitting clean-up for any major league baseball team. He’s more of a 5-6 hitter. Just goes to show how pathetic our offense is.
BMac is showing fatigue toward the end of the season, he should have every 5th or 4th game off, he doesn’t get it and to nobody’s surprise his hitting suffers. Could still be his glasses too you know. He still might have some adjustment problems, took me a whole year to get used to mine and I’m not a big league player. I think Mac will be ok just everyone has been down this year. Streaking inconsistent hitting, Chipper being in the doldrums on both sides of the plate and we can’t blame it on Francouer anymore, he’s gone. I blame it on the batting coach and Bobby, because I have to blame someone.

Getting some runs was exciting, giving them back, not So much!
Love seeing them win, even if it was not the prettiest game of the year! Would love to see a few more wins before the season ends!
Go Braves!
