Game 110 Recap: Braves 9, Dodgers 5 in 12 innings

Okay, quick recap as I've been gambling all night in Biloxi. I was keeping tabs on the Braves, mostly depressing throughout the night, and then wham! We came back and won the game in the 12th inning.

I did see Bobby Cox get thrown out, and that was apparently a pretty frustrating event. I'm sort of phoning in this recap, so here's the official site's wrap if you want to read up.

Way to go Ryan Church with the Frenchy-esque homerun in the 12th.

It was a good game, kept you on the edge of your seat Church’s 3 run homer after Garrison brought the tying run home then scored the go ahead run off Escobars hit. What was that umpire doing though? Bobby didn’t deserve to be tossed, if you couldn’t read Jurjenns lips as he was leaving the field yelling at the ump it was something like this "FUCKING SHIT your nothing but SHIT FUCKING SHIT. Something like that anyway These umps seemm to have it in for the Braves sometimes. HOHN a perfect example.

Anyone got a video link for Jurrjens getting tossed?

Missed the game cause of work and can only track down footage of a very pissed off Bobby Cox.

really wasn't that interesting

the Bobby ejection was pretty good, but Jurrjens just turned towards the ump when he was walking off, started yelling something, and got tossed. Bobby went down with a fight however.

That’s a great area. Just spent almost 2 weeks in Pass Christian with my cousin and his wife. Shaggy’s has some good food.

Im from Long Beach/Gulfport.

Nice to see some fans from around here posting.

The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault. -Ty Cobb

I didn’t get a chance to see most of this, and the last thing I saw was Blake’s homer in the 5th. Sorry I missed this.

Chew on this one for a bit...

Atlanta is 50-12 when scoring four-plus runs this season.

Most teams have splits like that, but, gees, that seems a little drastic. I can’t believe we’ve been shut out 11 times this season and scored 1 run 10 times.

Does anyone know where you can find league-wide splits for that? I can find the individual team ones on Baseball Reference, but not league-wide.

by VictorW on Aug 8, 2009 12:11 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Found it

MLB winning % while scoring 3 or fewer runs is .191.
Braves’ winning % while scoring 3 or fewer runs is .125.

MLB winning % scoring 4 or more runs is .719.
Braves’ winning % scoring 4 or more runs is .806

So, the Braves have a fairly pronounced difference in this area from most teams. What’s disappointing is how they’re winning so much less often while limiting opponents to 3 or fewer runs, considering that they’re a good pitching team.

that’s probably among the most drastic splits in MLB considering most teams give up 4 runs or so on average

I was there

And it was an AMAZING game! Wow right when everyone started leaving bam!! We came back.. That had to be the most exciting Braves game I’ve been to.

I didn’t see many Braves fans at all though.

Really?

Cause it sounded loud when Church hit his homer. The area by the RF foul pole had tons of Braves fans down there.

DONT REFER TO CHURCH AS FRENCY-ESQUE!!!

We can’t ruin his karma

Yeah

what exactly was that comparison getting at?

Pete Rose was actually banned from baseball for teaching Jeff Francoeur how to play. He made up the gambling stuff to hide his shame.

I didn’t say up for the post game interview-did they ask Brian if Cooper actually said “Strike” or “Ball” when he signaled on Ethier? I’d love to get the story on that.

"Tonite, it's the Braves vs the Dodgers and the Umpires...."

Winning 3 out of 4 will take the smoke away from their fire. Let’s do it.

Yawn….. (from pure lack of sleep with these 2 west coast series) – it was a looong night, but our Braves came back to win a stunner. Tired as hell, I went to sleep with a smile on my face after this one (unlike Thurs night).

Neither the Dodgers, Douchebag Braves killer, prick ump Cooper. lack of Chipper in the lineup or tired bodies had our guys giving up – they hung in and continued to play all 9 innings to tie it up and then hung in there for 3 more to WIN!!!!

I for one will be glad when they get in to a friendlier time zone for my body, but tonight I’ll be watching til the bitter end and rooting for them to do it again!
