Game 106 Recap: Braves 2, Padres 4
I don't know what went wrong in this one. Just not enough of everything. Our offense seems to have hit an NL West slumber. We're back at .500 and we're playing the second-worst team in the league -- ugh. Hey, Adam LaRoche hit a homerun, providing some of that power offense we got him for.

meh.
I’m hoping last night was the result of a Sunday night game followed by a flight across the country before a Monday night game.
Francoeur: "If OBP is so important, why don't they put it on the scoreboard?"
Chipper: "Wow, you really are a dumbass."
I thought the same thing
I don’t see how playing a sunday night game in ATL and then a monday night game in San Diego makes any kind of sense.
The Braves need to take two of three from the Pads.
The players have to approve that kind of move. It's a union thing.
Apparently, they did.

Lame Game
I really just can’t wait for Hudson to come back. Maybe we can use KK as trade bait in the off season, him and a prospect for an outfield bat.
Why blame KK???
Please explain to me how only scoring 1 run with a bases loaded, 0 out situation is KKs fault? Please explain to me how getting only 1 hit after the 2nd inning (oh, and it was KK who got that hit) was KK’s fault?
STOP BLAMING KK!
Look at his stats. He is 1-3 in his past 5 games, yet has only given up a TOTAL of 13 runs over those 5 games – 6 of which came in 1 of those games! That means in 4 of his past 5 games, KK has given up a total of 7 runs (earned and unearned).
KK is not a problem. Lack of hitting by guys who should be hitting (Chipper and Heap, I am lookin at YOU) is the problem. KK pitched very well last night and only made a couple of mistakes – the HR to that freak being one of them.
In addition to our offense totally blowing chunks last night, our defense was pretty lame too. Tough for KK to get a win when his offense is non-existant and his defense behind him is crappy.

+1
KK had a quality start last night. He threw 60 strikes and 24 balls, walked no one and struck out three. He kept the Braves in the ballgame; the offense and defense let him down.
+ a million

We knock Lincecum out early and can’t get but 2 hits off Latos, none after the 2nd inning and then completely shut out by their BP.
Playing the Padres.
…walks off shaking my head…
This quote from Bobby on the recap of the game on Braves site:
“Bases loaded with no outs, and we only got the one, but sometimes you don’t get any,” Cox said.
Is this really the lackadaisical mentality you want from a manager of a team trying to find a way to motivate it’s players to step up their game and find a way to get to the playoffs?
I’m sorry, but bases loaded no outs and BMac, GA & Yunel coming up – 1 run should NOT be acceptable.
Maybe this is why Norton is still PH for the team instead of a player who was actually producing.
(and spare me the stats of plate appearances, sample size, etc. Brooks was hitting the ball when he was sent down unlike the man who continues to fail this year. Norton’s last year’s numbers are doing nothing for the team now).
Would you rather he pitched a shit fit every night?
What has that got Ozzie Guillen? Stupid catfights with his players that get guys like Vazquez shipped out of town for no particularly good reason at all.

I would never expect Bobby to do it in the media.
But it seems not much motivating is going on behind closed doors when you see what looks like players on the field who don’t look fired up to play good consistent baseball. When we get behind, it seems like the whole team deflates and it feels like it’s rare we find a way to come back to win.
I don’t know what it’s gonna take. I hope sooner or later they find a way to support their great pitching.
I like you NCChopper, but I gotta disagree with you on this one. Our players show plenty of emotion. They are grown men. If they need a cheerleader or a hell-raiser, the season is already lost.
I just don’t see the lack of motivation that others see. I can see frustrations, sure. But, find me one professional sports team that doesn’t show frustration from time to time – especially during a losing stretch.
I think that if we stopped looking for signs of despair, we would stop finding them. We see what we want to see sometimes. You see all the giving up and the carelessness. I see pissed off batters flipping their bats, swearing, arguing with umps, etc.
This is just a rough stretch of games. The players certainly didn’t lack motivation 2 weeks ago, or at least, none of us were talking about it.

Man, that’s baseball. You get bases loaded and sometimes you hit a linedrive right at someone and they turn two. Sometimes a blooper lands and two runs score.
My problem with it, and it has nothing to do with the manager, is to remember who’s back is against the wall with the bases loaded and no outs. It isn’t the hitter who has the pressure on. Force the pitcher to throw your pitch. Don’t go diving out of the zone in hopes of nailing a three run triple.
Excellent points.

Exactly
Sometimes I think the Braves think that they have to hit a home run with a runner on third and nobody out. A ground ball to the right side, a bloop over the infield, a fly ball, all would have done the job. I’m surprised that Bobby hasn’t pulled a Russ Nixon by now, but it’s good that he hasn’t. How would it look if he spent the postgame interview blaming his players? I’m sure he has plenty to say to these guys in his office when the media’s not around, which is how it should be. Running down a player in public is our job….
We do seem to hit poorly against unknown starters for whatever reason.

Not really
This is typical for a bunch of clubs. I have a friend who is a fan of the Red Sox. They do the same thing…

Yeah, if thats the passive attitude being taken by the manager, just think about the players…..Makes you not wanna be a fan anymore
Then don’t be. Nobody is forcing you to stick around…

Regression to mean. This is a .500 team that played over its head in July and now has come back to its true level. The playoffs aren’t going to happen this year. New goals: a winning record and 2nd place in the division.
If we have regressed back to our true level, we are then a .250 team, not .500.

Not exactly.
They’re playing .250 in this stretch to bring them down to .500 overall.

Right. I was just saying that if this poster thinks that this is how our team truly is, then we are not a .500 team. Unless he is just saying that we are back to where we should be overall, but that isn’t how I read his post.

Not too surprised by this one
1. Mat Latos’ debut against the Braves. How many times have the Braves made a rookie look like Cy Young? All batters had the mentality to be aggressive and swing at everything to try and get to him, and he gave them nothing to hit. By the time the batters laid off, he was throwing better first-pitch strikes, and utilizing a pretty mean curve to get over.
2. First, it was Javier, then it was Jurrjens; unfortunately for now, Kawakami can’t get any run support. You know, it has nothing to do with this anymore, the whole “pitchers who get no run support.” It’s the inconsistent offense that can’t really score runs, regardless of who is pitching. Again. Kawakami pitched pretty decently, and best of all, with no walks. Six innings and three earned runs? I’d take that everyday if I were the Phillies or Brewers, but not always so much if we’re the Braves.
3. Excuse, it sounds like, but to some extent, I do factor in the time change/prior night game. A demoralizing loss to the Dodgers, followed by a cross-country flight to the west coast, which puts them in San Diego at around 4 am local time; not digging it.
All things considered, I think the Braves are more than capable of taking the next two.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Did anyone see the recap of the Braves Padres game ESPN did, they killed us those scum bags.
Baseball is my life
We got stomped by a terrible team starting a rookie who was in A-ball at the beginning of this season.
Should they have been lauding our two runs?

Idiots work for ESPN. I thought Miller, Morgan or Phillips was going to have an orgasm over the Dodgers Sunday night.
Heard in the booth Sunday night...
Phillips: I think the list should be release, so we can all know who they were and move on.
Morgan: What? You are an idiot! That list should not be released because those guys were not cheaters! They were the heroes that stood up and said “Test me! I will contribute to your case study!” I was better than any of those non-cheaters back in my day anyway. Nobody could play the game the way I could.
Miller: Hey, are you guys gonna finish your hotdogs?

well, the Braves will do better tonight hopefully they’ll be rested and not burned out from the trip and the humiliating loss to the Dodgers. I don’t know what to say to their inconsistent offense. I liked the way they looked in April so much I bought season tix, now I’m kind of sorry. But what the hell, a day at the ball park is always better than staying at home and to paraphrase ol’ Forrest Gump,“The Braves are like a boxa chocklates, you neva know what yogonna get.”
