Game 105 Recap: Dodgers 9, Braves 1

There's still plenty of games to go, as the converts would say...

Except now we need .650 ball the rest of the way to have a better than even shot at the playoffs.

Easy to figure them out. No holes.
Their entire lineup has the ability to make you pay for any mistake.

We however, will never be competitive putting 9 men on the field where only half are potential threats. And, when 3 or 4 of them struggle too, the result is pretty inevitable.

I’m just really tired of seeing us fail so miserably every time we have a nationally televised audience. How in the world would we ever compete in the playoffs if we can’t find a way to step it up on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

I hope we do better in the upcoming games – we need our healthy starting lineup to have any chance at all.

No doubt.

The dropoff from Yunel to Diory is catastrophic for our offense. And the Matty D/Church platoon was paying dividends.

we are 2-1 on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball this season.

One of those games

When watching baseball, every now and then, you see some things that make you feel uneasy. For me, it’s the way the Braves had to constantly endure runners on-base almost every inning. It certainly felt like a “if Jair doesn’t nip this, it’s going to be trouble,” and come later innings, those additional base runners certainly did.

I am morbidly exasperated with seeing Diory Hernandez in the lineup, and it makes me mad that Escobar can’t stay in the lineup, whether its due factors his own or not. Losing both Escobar and Infante to beanballs is ridiculous, and not at all that fair.

I’m not keen on the notion of the Braves having to play an ESPN night game, and then have to jump to the other coast for a game the following day. Even if the Padres are a team with a poor record, it’s still not very cool to do that, even with the gaining of three hours.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Jurrjens was constantly getting in jams, and his location was off all night. He was crafty enough to get out of those early troubles, but you knew the inning was coming where they would tack on some runs. I had to keep telling myself it was 0-0, because i felt like we were losing the entire game with the way they were getting runners on, and we, well, weren’t. But, same as the losing streak on the previous west coast trip, the 4-0 lead allowed me to go to bed and not stay up watching a close ball game.

Escobar nees to stop crowding the plate if he doesn’t want to get hit. He’s basically right over the plate.

When i saw hit get hit, i thought his season was over. I was surprised that didn’t break anything.

Don't the players have some control over whether their game is moved?

I thought the union was involved somehow.

I hate ESPN’s coverage of baseball. If the Braves were never on Sunday Night Baseball again, I’d be happy.

The Braves are not as good as the Dodgers especially when they have Mr. .154 Average playing shortstop. The 2005 playoffs were a long time ago. We’ve all gotten over game 4 by now. Please call up Burke and send down Hernandez.

The Braves would be a better club without Hernandez and Norton and with Conrad and Burke.

by John Holton on Aug 3, 2009 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Hard to make that statement definitively.

Who’s to say ML pitching doesn’t figure Conrad out when he’s up for longer than a couple of weeks?

How many starts is he getting, though?

It’s one thing to fail as a hitter once a game. It’s another to do it 4-5 times.

What a trade this would have been
the Red Sox gave the Mariners the chance to choose five of the following players in exchange for Felix Hernandez:

Clay Buchholz
Daniel Bard
Justin Masterson
Nick Hagadone
Michael Bowden
Felix Doubront
Josh Reddick
Yamaico Navarro
The Mariners apparently turned down the deal.

Boston thinks they can just get anybody ehhh. King Felix should go no where and the Mariners should keep him as long as they can.
