UPDATE - Remaining schedules of the NL WC contenders

I decided to compile (hopefully, in an easy to read format) the remaining schedules of the WC contenders.  The table includes 8-27-09 games.  I also had my own thoughts about the remaining records, but that's kind of similar to rosterbating, and I don't want to do too much of that--I'll let the discussion get into the possible outcomes.  I will say that it's possible for the Braves to overtake their 3 competitors, but they'll need some help (i.e., the other teams cooling off, Chipper hitting, etc.).  Anyway, I just wanted to post this so people (including myself) have a point of reference.  The least you all can do is thank me, rec the post, wire me some cash and send me naked pictures of your wives and girlfriends!!!!

Here's a better breakdown of the remaining games.  After SF, Col plays 19 of their next 22 against bad teams.  The end of that stretch coincides with the Braves' run of 10/13 games against bad teams.  I think Bronn is right--we'll know whether we're in or out by September 21.

Yeah, I was hoping people would remember the guy who whined for rec's

Otherwise, people would accuse me of being a whiny douche.

I think the Braves will finish tied for first or close second

With a win tonight, I think they will get 89 or 90 wins. If the Dodgers and Giants play the Rockies tough, there’s a chance that they will finish with only 90 wins. How awesome would it be to have a one game playoff between the two teams? Obviously, there’s a lot of ground to make up, and the Braves need some help, but it’s very attainable.

The really nice thing is, even if they don’t make the playoffs this year, next year’s team should also be pretty good. I don’t get the feeling that it’s this year or never. The Braves are movin’ on up. Just like the Jeffersons.

we might get extra wins for degree of difficulty

because apparently the Padres are a primo franchise.

If this team can close the gap a bit over the next week

We might be in really good shape. This schedule turns into a real cupcake after next week. The problem is, we still really need to put together a winning streak, and it needs to start right now. It’s tough to look at a series against the Phillies and say “We need the sweep,” but that’s where we are right now. I doubt we’ll get it, but if we can keep the games close, the Phillies’ bullpen will make sure we have a chance.

I’m just really not liking the Saturday match-up between Lowe and Cliff Lee at this point. He’s been so ridiculously hot since the trade it’s not even fair. Still, let’s hope Diaz leads off against him again and we’ll see which ridiculously hot player can keep it going.

Time to start looking ahead, and the day to which we’re looking is September 21st. The Braves open a 3 game series against the Mets, followed by 3 against the Nationals, then 3 against Florida, followed by 4 more against the Nationals. If the Braves can stay in the race until then (ideally, about 3 or fewer games out in either the division or WC) they’ll have the chance to close the rest of the gap.

Not trying to threadshit

But it would’ve been super-helpful if you’d distinguished home and away. It’s still helpful anyway and I’m recing it anyway. Good work.

even more important you should look at some of those pitching match-ups over the next few weeks. the Rockies next series against SF, the face Timmy, Zito, and Cain in a 3 game set.

we need to cash in now

Thanks for handy reference all in one place.

Rec’d and unless you want me to try and convince hubby to pose, no naked photos forthcoming.

That depends...

If your hubby looks like Daniel Craig or Christian Bale, I’m sure my wife would be interested. But seriously, thanks for rec—I was only trying to be funny, not pander. I’m just glad that it’s useful. I just wanted to see who everyone else was playing, and then predict what their remaining records would be.

Natspos

Its been said on other post but for some reason the Natspos have had our # lately. I know on paper those 7 games against the worst team in baseball looks good but the Bravos haven’t been able to handle their business with the sucky teams. I’m thinking 6 of 7 against them is a must.

by Chesterhighwater on Aug 28, 2009 2:37 PM EDT via mobile reply actions   0 recs

The Braves finally won the first game of a series in a long time. Thanks for the post, good reference tool. Its a shame that the west have 2 of the worst teams in the NL(Padres and Arizona) SFO plays the Philly tomorrow and if we sweep the Marlins I think we can be in great shape. COL has a few more with the Dodgers whop seem to lose to everyone else but the Giants and Rockies. We do have 7 with the Nationals, we just cant afford to have anymore series like we did against the padres.
