New Blog: World Soccer Digest for Soccer Fans!

I, for one, get pretty pissed off when I read this crap. I've mentioned a million times that I live in STL, so I get a lot of this stuff first hand whenever it happens. Its amazing to have Smoltzy down the street, but not amazing to actually have conversations like this.

Grow up Cardinals - you just signed an HOF lock (LOCK!!!) and you're suggesting his success in his first amazing start was due to something YOU informed him??? lol

It’s entirely possible that he was but if the cards claim they “revitalized” him or any such thing (didn’t read full article) then that’s a joke. The switch from al to nl is likely the biggest contributor here

DeRosa sold Cards on Smoltz and vice versa.

Read all about it … here.

Also, from the same article, a seemingly prophetic (given last night’s stellar performance) quote from the impending HOFer :

“This became the most practical and best fit in the sense it gives me the time to get innings without the pressure of immediate response,” Smoltz said. “I’ve been in quicksand the last two months. I didn’t deliver. My results weren’t good, but they weren’t as far off as people imagine. I can get healthier and make some mechanical changes that I need to make. I believe I’ll be a very effective pitcher.”

Reasons Smoltz signed

1. DeRosa and Wainwright both called Smoltz.
2. Cards were holding a 6 game lead with a posh schedule for the rest of the year.
3. Cards bullpen (and rotation for that matter) are pretty much solid.
4. Bosox will pay out vast majority of the contract, INCLUDING postseason benchmarks and incentives.
5. Cards were/are able to let Smoltz do whatever he wants to get into form (whatever form HE wants) for whatever postseason pitching he’ll do.

A career NL pitcher spends a few months in the AL, and now his new team wants to claim victory for making such nice changes. Uch.

Call me crazy, but I want to see John Smoltz have more than one good game (Against the PADRES, no less) before I crown him “back”.

"Actually, Justin was right."
