"Freddie's probably going on the DL tomorrow," said Mississippi manager Phillip Wellman on Sunday afternoon, just after the Chattanooga Lookouts beat Wellman's Braves 2-1 at AT&T Field.
"He's been playing in pain for the last couple of weeks with a bad hand. It's probably time to shut him down."
Said Freeman as he exited the visitors clubhouse, "It's really frustrating. I didn't want to end the season like this."
Freddie Freeman to the DL
It looks like we know why Freeman may have been struggling lately. No reason to push him when he's injured. Freeman has proven plenty this year, and we need to protect our long term plans for him. I wonder if this will put is AFL status in question.

[UPDATE 4PM]
It's official via a Mississippi Braves press release, they have disabled Freeman. They have promoted Ernesto Mejia from Myrtle Beach to Mississippi.

They were pretty vague about the injury, just said it was sore. I don’t get why he can’t/won’t watch a Braves game live.
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.

What do you mean? Am I missing something here?

Although they didn’t specify which hand I’d bet it is his glove hand. I noticed him wince a couple times when he caught balls thrown from other infielders at first base a time or two up in Montgomery. Hopefully a little rest will get him healed up and healthy in time for the AFL.

Hmm
Wonder if its some sort of small fracture. Hopefully some time off will get him and Heyward into the AFL.

Darn it...
….I was hoping to see him play. I’m going to the game in Chattanooga tonight. At least I will get to see Mr. Heyward.

Going to the game too
I’ll be going to the game after I get out of class tonight (7:30 or 8). My wife normally goes with me, but she has to miss this one. E-mail me at atjohns(at)gmail.com if you want to meet up and talk braves.
Hopefully that doesn’t sound too much like a stalker.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

Lol, I wouldn’t have said anything if you hadn’t set yourself up for it.

Oh well...
…I’m not reading this until after I got home. No, I wouldn’t have been afraid. Plus, having someone to talk to would have made it a little more bearable. I can’t believe Heyward didn’t play. Well, yes I can, that’s my luck. You may have seen me, I was the lady in green directly behind home plate.

speaking of which
why do we let players play hurt and struggle for weeks before we declare them “disabled” ? wouldnt it help the team and the player to sideline them at the first sign of injury

i think, especially at the minor league level, its just better to DL them. The majors is a different story, but would i rather have Freddie miss 2 weeks of AA games, or potentially seriously injure hit wrist? Im gonna go with the DL.

I agree, especially since the minor league DL is 7 days, so they only have to miss a week minimum.
