Francoeur imparts more baseball wisdom...
"That was a lot of fun," Jeff Francoeur said. "You just keep pounding balls into the gap. The one thing you don't want to do is hit a home run. That's a rally-killer."
First, OBP is overrated, now it's the long ball. Yeah, who wouldn't rather have a double than a homer?

But yeah, Frenchy never fails to amaze. Somebody better tell the Phils to quit hitting homers, they just might win the division

So thats it
He doesn’t really suck guys. He is just trying his darndest to not hit the ball over that fence. God forbid Jeff Francoeur being a rally-killer.
Far be it from Jeff Francoeur to ever kill a rally with a Home Run.
Besides, I believe he prefers the Jose Vidro method.

LOL
This is the first time I’ve heard someone say this who wasn’t named Joe Morgan:
Sometimes home runs are rally killers, because they clear the bases.

That man amazes me
Home runs obviously do nothing as far as momentum goes. If the bases are clear, you obviously have nothing going for you offensively. Disregard the runs you just scored, or the momentum you just gave your team, you cleared the bases.

Frank Deford
This is an old-school mentality comment. To some degree, I can see where Francoeur is coming from, but it’s surprising that it’s coming from him. Statistically it’s a horrible comment, because there’s never anything wrong with any manner of scoring runs.
In a Frank Deford book “The Entitled”, there is a story about an old-school manager who deals with a scenario, where his mediocre Cleveland Indians team is down by four runs in the bottom of a ninth inning. The guy who leads off the inning gets on base, and the focal point slugger is up next. In a surprise, the manager has the slugger take, and sure enough he watches the pitch he knows he can destroy go by for a called strike. He ends up being walked, but that was the manager’s intent.
The methodology behind this is that the manager wanted base-runners on, to give the pitcher, or anyone who comes out to relief him, the pressure of having runners on. It was his belief that having those runners on base creates more likelihood for error, which could lead to more production, as opposed to the thought of having the slugger hit a two-run blast, cut the deficit to two runs, watch the pitcher get pulled, and have a reliever take care of the remaining two outs.
I don’t agree with it, but it does give an insight to that old school way of thinking. I’d rather believe that cutting a lead in half does a sufficient job of putting pressure on the pitchers too.
Oh, and if it’s any surprise, it panned out in the book not working, either.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
yeah...
I understood the thought process, I just thought after the OBP comment, he would have more sense than to say something like that to the press. Obviously not.
"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." A. Bartlett Giamatti
I considered that possibility, but I don’t think his sense of humor is that ….ummm…dry?…sharp?… I don’t know, just the more I thought about it, the more I think he was serious.

As compared to Kelly Johnson, who said he listens to “You’re the Best” to get pumped before a game. Priceless.

I like KJ a lot...
…I think he’s a pretty smart young fellow.

Frenchy should write a book about all his baseball wisdoms and truths. I’m sure it would would make for a good read while taking a shit.
There is no such thing as momentum in baseball. WTF! Momentum only lasts until the next team bats.
If home runs are so important,
why aren’t they on the scoreboard?
