Too early???

No, this isn't another plug for Heyward to be called up.  With the deadline to sign draft picks this year coming quickly,  is it to early to look to next years draft?

Here are some names to keep in mind.

We have no shot at Bryce Harper but he's next year's version Justin Upton (HS prodigy) if he can get eligible.

Kaleb Cowart - 3B/RHP from Georgia.  Good arm strength from 3rd but most likely projected as a pitcher.  Committed to FSU.

Tyler Austin - C/3B from Georgia.  More developed as a Catcher than a 3B but he hasn't looked too bad in the field.  As of now I don't think he's committed to any school.  He's a bit raw but has a good swing from the right side.

Zach Alvord - Middle Infielder from Georgia.  Has played just about every infield position but will probably be a 2B.  He drills fast balls but struggles a little bit on breaking pitches.  He does pull the ball pretty well.  Committed to Auburn.

Marcus Littlewood - SS from Utah.  Switchhitter who is very good defensively.  His dad is a coach and he is committed to San Diego.

DeAndre Smelter - RHP from Georgia. Kevin Brown is his HS coach.  His fastball is in the 93-94 range and he has a pretty good repeatable delivery.  He's also working on a Slider and Splitter in the 80s.

College players to look at (if they're eligible):

Tony Thompson, 3B  Kansas

A.J. Morris, P Kansas State

Louis Coleman, P LSU

Mike McGee, INF FSU

I'd kind of like to see Atlanta take Smelter or Cowart but it's still very early.

I’d love to get Smelter but doubt we will be able to. Cowart is a possibility though, reminds me a little of Casey Kelly of the Red Sox in that he really could end up as either a hitter or a pitcher, could drop a little if he insists on playing the field

Kelly

has no business at short, IMO.

Pete Rose was actually banned from baseball for teaching Jeff Francoeur how to play. He made up the gambling stuff to hide his shame.

not anymore, and that’s why he’s pitching. But I’m saying he still would have been a highly regarded prospect as a hitter, not nearly as much as he is on the mound, but still

he hasn't pitched since the ASB

but that’s probably where he ultimately sticks

Coleman

I don’t know much about the other guys, but I’m a big LSU fan, and I got to watch Coleman a lot this year. He’s the real deal, ace of the staff of the CWS champs. Has this weird-looking side-step delivery that’s always entertaining to watch, and he’s a kid with great character as well.

Huge LSU fan also…and most know he was already drafted this year.

ya know

I knew that and for some reason had him on my list… Was it the Royals?

Oh yeah, forgot about that…Well, maybe we can trade for him, since the Royals love former Brave players…

Yup, it’s too early for me.

From a purely great name standpoint...

…you’re not going to get much better than DeAndre Smelter.

Maybe we can get Biff Pocoroba to be his mentor?

others...

Zach Alvord, SS, GA

Stetson Allie, RHP, OH (but is definitely top-5 material it seems…committed to UNC and supposedly loves Coach Fox…God i love our baseball program now)

Brian Ragira, OF, TX

Kris Bryant, 3B, NV

Connor Narron, SS, NC (another UNC guy…one i’m pretty familiar with…bigger frame…6’3"…a kid who can move to 3B).

Chad Lewis, 3B, CA

Gerin Cecchini, SS, LA

Reggie Golden, OF, AL

Carston Whitston, RHP, FL

Trey Griffin, OF, GA (a kid who i would LOVE to fall to us…http://www.perfectgame.org/players/playerprofile.aspx?ID=74077…wow…perfect compliment to Heyward).
