Game 103 Recap: Dodgers 5, Braves 0

I’ll throw in a bit, as I watched the first 5 IPs before I had to go pick my GF up…

Schmidt looked much more like a pitcher than I’d ever seen him before. Think part of it might have been the weak ATL lineup, but part of it legitimately was not. Working both sides, changing eye levels and speeds, he had guys off balance. He definitely worked around the heart of the order, but you take what the other team gives you, I guess.

Hard to root for the opposing pitcher, but hard to root against Jason after all he’s been through…

The Braves were showing off their warning track power tonight. They hit several balls hard, but they went right to the outfielders, or seemed to just die in the gaps. There were times when they did look pitiful at the plate, but as i said, thye hit a lot of hard fly balls right at the outfielders.

Pitiful is just not a word you want to see in a recap of your team’s effort of a game, but unfortunately it’s accurate. Like 10-4 said, we hit a ton of fly balls for outs, but they managed to get 12 hits thorough the defense, we should have done better.

It’s not like we didn’t have opportunities – we got 6 walks (and only gave up 1) and to start the 7th with back to back hits by Diory and Barbaro (yes, you read that right) the top of the order failed to get even 1 run across. We simply did not take advantage of the chances we were given. We were 0-6 with RISP and left 10 men on base. So, it wasn’t all fly ball failures.

Granted, Schmidt has his game on and from what the announcers said, was literally pitching for his Dodger life last night after his recent outings…but our aggressiveness/impatience at the plate once again let him off the hook of having to throw a lot of pitches more than once.

I hope Lowe can pitch well tonight.
Phillies and Marlins BOTH won last night. We really need to take this series at home if we can, and the next 2 games will NOT be easy.

This makes me think the chemistry of the team will not be hurt and may even be improved with LaRoche coming back. MB’s blog had this about Adam being stuck in Baltimore last night because of weather.

I think these two are going to enjoy being on the same team together again, maybe that sense of “fun” will be contagious and help gel this team a little more here in the late summer.

Adam LaRoche plans to be in the Braves lineup when the face the Dodgers at Turner Field on Saturday afternoon. But first, the 29-year-old first baseman is going to have to get out of Baltimore.

After learning the Red Sox had traded him to the Braves on Friday afternoon, LaRoche planned to catch an 8 p.m. ET flight to Boston, pack his truck and then catch an early morning flight to Atlanta.

But things have became complicated when weather delayed his flight out of Baltimore for approximately three hours. Thus he’s now scheduled to arrive in Boston around 1 a.m. and then return to the airport for his 8:30 a.m. flight to Atlanta.

“If Chipper (Jones) was a good teammate, he’d send his plane up here to get me,” LaRoche said.

When told about his close friend’s remark after Friday night’s loss to the Dodgers, Chipper said, “Call him back, tell him to hold his breath and see how far that gets him.”

Even with our full lineup this team is not a great hitting team. We’re only four games out of the wild card but we’ll have to play well for the rest of the season. So far we’ve only played well for a week and a half at the most.
