The Milwaukee Brewers, desperate for starting pitching help, recently placed a call to Atlanta about Javier Vazquez, a source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
But it doesn't appear the two sides have a match unless Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin is willing to trade one of his two "untouchables'' -- prospects Mat Gamel or Alcides Escobar -- as part of a package for Vazquez.
Brewers inquire on Braves' Javier Vazquez
I will also accept Ryan Braun. But I have now completely soured on Corey Hart.

That would be pretty awesome if we could turn Flowers, Lillibridge, Gilmore and Rodriguez into half a season of an ace starting pitcher, 6 years of Mat Gamel, and a potential LOOGY.

Brewers would have to pony up BIG TIME for Vazquez. He’s basically been the 2nd best starter in the NL this year (behind Lincecum)
My thoughts on the Brewers rumors
1. Corey Hart better not be the centerpiece of their package.
2. We better not deal Vaz if we’re planning on contending, because we’d be replacing him with Todd Redmond at present.
3. Just say no to Hart.
4. I like that this gives us some options if things continue to go sour on ‘09. But I probably don’t make this deal unless we’re getting one of those guys the Brewers claim are off-limits. Alcides would allow us to deal our Escobar for a nice haul of prospects once he hit his arb years.
5. A year and a half of Vaz is worth damn near as much as a year and a half of Teixiera was, so I’m looking for a big-time prospect package if we’re moving him this month.
Keep in mind we gave up a top 30 prospect hitter in Tyler Flowers to get Vazquez, and his value has only gone up since we got him. Flowers is on the same level of prospect as Gamel, because of how well he’s handled AA this year.
Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.
Scratch that...
4:35pm: Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel spoke with Brewers GM Doug Melvin and heard that the two teams are not discussing a trade for Vazquez.
If we end up trading vasquez
I hope its not to the brewers, we need major league talent for him at this point in the season and we just dont match up well with them and please dont say corey hart+prospects because he is a terrible centerpice for a deal for vasquez.
LMFAO

What a tough question!

You guys are sold on Cruz? I always worry about guys from Texas. Well except Tex, who is an absolute stud.

Gotta check the numbers…
Nelson Cruz’s career road splits: .227/.282/.428
No thank you.

My point exactly.
Outside of Kinsler and Hamilton, i’d pass on all of the Rangers guys.

That’s why I also included two pretty straight pitching prospects in there. I don’t think cruz is a 40+ HR guy but he is having a breakout year and could easily contribute a .260 BA with 25+ HR. Something no one in our OF will do this year.
That trade would address the OF for this year and give us options next year with Cruz, McClouth, Schafer, Diaz, and Heyward.
We would also have a damn also rotation with Hudson, Lowe, JJ, Hanson, Kawakami, and Feliz just waiting for Lowe to break his hip or something. It’s a legit trade that would make our team better now and in the future.
I'm saying his numbers are a product of his current stadium
A full season of Atlanta would be 25. So I’m assuming you could add another 12 if he were traded to us by the all star break.
Texas is hurting for money big time. No way they are taking on salary. Plus Javy would have to waive his NTC since Texas in the AL West

How about Andrus, Feliz, Andruw, and Salty for Yesco and Vasquez!?
Get it done, Wren!!

Someone help me out
I can’t find that much on Mat Gamel, and some of you guys are talking about having him for 6 years if we traded for him. All i can find is something about him getting a ticket for getting hit on a bike.
He hasnt done anything with the Brewers this year. A .256 avg with 2 HRs and 12 RBIs? I must be missing something here if he’s the centerpiece of a deal for Javy.

So does he sit on the bench as Chipper's future replacement for 3 years?
I get your point and he’s not untouchable for a reason.
i not sure. thats why i was surprised to see his name come up and hadnt even thought about him.

Gamel is an absolute hitter. He probably won’t hit for much power, but he’s going to get a ton of hits. Ideally, he’d be a great second baseman, but he’s a butcher with the glove. His best position would be DH, but he’d probably be decent enough in LF, particularly if he does happen to develop power.

THANK PUJOLS!!!
I am glad this was not true. Unless the name “Braun” is included in a deal with the Brew-crew, count me against dealing Javy.

Personally, i just dont think this team can compete without destroying the beloved farm system. i think it would be a good idea to sell the guys that arent locked up long-term, like Javy, Gonzo, and Soriano (I would rather keep one reliever and try to resign him in the OS). I know Vazquez is signed through next year, but we wont need him as badly with Hudson back and presumably healthy, and he and Gonzo could bring in quite a haul of nice prospects. I know this team has potential but it seems like I have seen nothing to show me they are getting it together, sure we swept Philly, but then lost a series the Washington fucking Natinals. As much as I would like to trade for someone like Cruz, Dye, etc., I just dont think it would be wise by the way this team has been playing. It would take one hell of a player to turn this team around. I mean FUGA, Diaz, Martin, Escobar are all hot right now, yet we’ve lost three in a row. I just dont know what it is about this team…
