Look at Todd Redmond getting back on track. His one run allowed was of the unearned variety when Gregor Blanco missed a ball in the OF which led to Rochester scoring their only run of the night. Brandon Jones actually has 5 XBH in his last 7 games. What has gotten into him?

You know it can't be easy to get a quality start without striking out any batters, but Ryne Reynoso pulled it off. Too bad the offense was shut down by Steve Bray. Even Jason Heyward went hitless with 2 K. (Don't worry he still has almost twice as many BB as K in Mississippi and more than twice as many XBH).
Kinston @ Myrtle Beach - RAIN
Asheville 8, Rome 4
- L. Sumoza 3-4 2B, RBI
- A. Milligan 2-4 3B, RBI
- JJ Hoover 5IP 8H 5R 2BB 7K
This one probably constitutes JJ Hoover's worst start of the season which isn't too bad in my estimation. I wonder if he isn't getting a little tired though as he is having his worst month of the season. His control has still been superb and as you can see he is still getting his strike outs. Asheville is the best hitting team in the league so for now I will chalk it up to that.

- B. Rauh 1-3 2B, SB(4)
- J. Teheran 8IP 2H 1R 1BB 11K
There really hasn't been anything from Julio Teheran that hasn't been impressive this season. He is getting Ks, he is pitching deep into games (7 or more innings in 4 of his 7 starts), he gets ground balls and he doesn't walk a ton of people. I really want to see him move up a level and show us what he can do. Obviously he has all the time in the world being only 18 years old.
GCL Braves 6, GCL Blue Jays 10
- A. Odreman 2-5 RBI, 2K
- C. Bethancourt 2-5 RBI
- D. Falcon 2-3 2B, 3B RBI
The very young Christian Bethancourt keeps on hitting the ball to the tune of .314/.362/.465. He has shown good doubles power so far and a K rate that isn't horrible. I hope everyone has him on their lists at the end of the year.

As much as we talk about Heyward's ETA
what is the realistic ETA for Freeman?
Obviously he wont be called up this season, but is there any possibility he starts at 1B for us next season? I doubt it. He’s only 20 and Kotchman is a stud defensively at 1B.
My guess is he’s a mid-summer call up next season, but thats JMO.
What do you guys think?

no i don’t think we see him starting at all next year. He hasn’t made quite the developmental progress that Heyward has this year. That said, I think he is a little underrated as a prospect even in his own right. He is 19 years old in AA and has only struck out 6 times in 80+ ABs. Thats freaking spectacular. Once he puts all of his tools together he is going to be a beast.
At the very least, I’d leave him at Mississippi to finish out this season. I’d like him to play in the AFL as well, to get some more at-bats there against ML-ready pitching, and then invite him to spring training again. I’d make the decision on whether he starts at AA or AAA next year based on his performance in AFL and spring training.
I estimate he’s probably either a July or September call-up next year. No earlier, though.

There’s no reason to rush Freeman at all. He’s not likely to outproduce Kotchman early in his career. His upside is certainly a good deal higher than Kotchman, but he’s not likely to surpass what we’re getting from Kotch until 2011 or later.
There’s no value in letting Freeman face pitching he’s not ready for, as it will just hurt the big league team, and ultimate could slow his development. Heyward, it can be argued, could outproduce what we’re putting in the outfield in a couple of positions, but Freeman just isn’t there at this point, nor will he be soon.

The problem is he hasn’t been overmatched anywhere yet. He does seem to be matched in AA so far though.
Which is fine, considering his age and all.

i think thats a little too conservative. I mean, i know he is young, but he hasn’t struggled anywhere the Braves have put him. I really think he will see the majors no later than September next year.

and you have to add a real good FA pitcher/pitcher we aquire via trade since Huddy, Javy and KK will all be done by 2012. DLowe will be an overpaid #5, but whatever, we needed him this year and the next.

we might not even need a FA pitcher. We have so many guys that are pretty good in the A levels that might be ready to contribute by then as back of the rotation starters

but i would think we would want another veteran in the rotation. In 2012 JJ and Hanson will only be 26 or so, and Teheran will be 22. DLowe will be an old man around 40, but i’d really like to add a veteran, middle aged starter (Kinda like Huddy and Javy are now)
And Huddy is 34 now correct? So he’ll be 37 or 38 by then. so i doubt he’s still there. but you never know..

yeah you have to think that someone out of Spruill, Hoover, Osuna, Hale, Minor, Oberholtzer etc will be able to hold down a 4-5 spot in the majors

Skipped from A ball to the majors at 20.
Julio looks to be better. 2012 MAY be a bit conservative, because you never know. By may 2011 Teheran may be making the minors look stupid ala Jason Heyward and he may force a call up. Felix Hernandex was called up at 19, and I have heard scouts compare Julio’s stuff to Felix’s.

Probably will start next year at low A, so I figure midseason 2011 or ST 2012.
Actually.....
Teheran was suppose to start out in Rome coming out of ST but he was have some shoulder soreness. The Braves are being overly cautious with this kid so they sent him back to extended ST. Several scouts that watched him throw on the back fields in ST said he was the most impressive of ALL Braves minor league pitcher.

At 18 he has a Mid 90’s FB, LOW 80’s Change Up with excellent action, and a High 70’s Power Curve.
Man. just imagine as he gets stronger. Gotta figure at least a little more velocity and movement.

intriguing thought. Wonder if the Braves let him make the jump since they are being so careful with him. He has pretty much dominate in all of his 7 starts except the one he gave up 5 runs.

That’s really unheard of that an 18 Y.O. kid goes 8 innings in the minors and what makes it even better is that he only threw 90 or so pitches! That’s what you call special! I bet if he had not given up that fluke run in the 8th that he would have gone for the complete game.

Wish he would have sat out before it got that bad. Apparently it was re-injured and thats why he is out for the year.
still wish he would have just sat out from the beginning of it hurting. Now he prob wont be starting next year in CF. Prob out the gate will be how it is now with Diaz as the every day LF and Blanco as the 4th OF.

I’m really, really starting to like this kid! Just as much as Heyward and Freeman he’s raking so far Roy Clark saw the potential in this kid 3 years ago, which is why they drafted him so many times. He may leap Cody Johnson here soon.

Minor league post seasons...
just curious.
When do each teams seasons’ end, and who might make the playoffs?
Just wondering what teams would be possible September callups, and what teams would still be playing deeper into the season to allow for some of the better prospects to continue developing.
The Minor League season alwayse ends onl Labor Day.
Gwinnett is one game out of the division lead and leading the Wild Card.
Mississippi is 7 games out, so they seem unlikely to advance.
Myrtle Beach is in third place, but only 3.5 games out. Also, the division leader, Winston-Salem won the first half, so I believe if they won the second half too that the second place team would make the playoffs. In that scenario, they’re only 2 games out.
Rome is 8.5 games out, in last place.
Danville is in first place with a 3 game lead. They typically make a good run for the playoffs.
The GCL team is 6 games out in last place.

so basically, they can call up the best in GCL to add to Danville like Bethancourt and OFs Rose and Hiller. Bring up some of the arms and Milligan from Rome to help Beach, bring Heyward and Freeman up to Gwinnett to keep playing (and also allow Canizares to join the big club when rosters expand).
