After a strong showing in Rome, the young righty from Marietta has been demoted to the Gulf Coast League.
In other Rome, second year standout pitcher news, Brett Devall injured elbow seems likely to keep him out for the rest of the year and may require surgery according to the Rome News Tribune.

Why?
Any idea why the organization would do something like that? Trade? Trying to limit his innings?

Injury
Could it be that he is hurt? Maybe this is a way to avoid putting Zeke on the DL.

I got no clue why....
can’t imagine it’d be to avoid putting him on the DL since he’d still be using a roster spot in GCL if that were the case. Hopefully someone around here can answer the why, because that certainly seems like a good question with the way he’s been pitching.
My guess is that they had a specific number of innings they wanted him to pitch this year and he reached that, so they’re essentially shutting him down.

Teheran?

Jeff Locke
Last season, Jeff Locke had some of this stuff going on. I can’t remember the details exactly, but he was ‘demoted’ Danville, but he never actually left Rome. He came out of the clubhouse in Rome after a game when he was supposedly in Danville, and he just said it had to do with shuffling rosters and such. I’m not saying this is the case with Zeke, but it could be something similar.
Teams do that a lot with the rosters to get extra guys. They don’t have a set time a guy has to stay down like the Majors do, so they can make those paper moves and really end up keeping an extra pitcher or 2 on a roster for good chunks of the season. It’s especially prevalent the early part of the year when those short season teams aren’t playing.

Kimbrel
In similar news, it looks like Craig Kimbrel has been promoted to Mississippi. I don’t have a link cause it was posted on his facebook. Good for him. He’s nasty

ERA at the Beach: 5.47 in 26 innings
He’s been better lately, but id have figured they would give him more work with the Pelicans
That's what sucks
Not many IP. I wish we had tried him as a starter.

I can’t get full gamelogs from MILB.com, but over the last 10 games at the Beach, he’s got a 1.84 ERA in 14 2/3 IP with 28 K
That
is almost 2 K/IP.
I love the callup
