Jayson Stark says we're stuck with FYF
From Jayson Stark's latest Rumblings and Grumblings post:
• Frenchy toast: Here's how one front-office man describes the Braves' efforts to export Jeff Francoeur: "They're trying to peddle him everywhere. They're calling people all over baseball. But nobody's biting. Right now, he's about as ugly as he can get offensively. He's the kind of guy we'd think about taking a gamble on over the winter -- if he gets non-tendered and you could take him for a very low base. But right now, I think they're stuck with him."

Ugh…that sucks…even Mr. Moore in KC feels that way???
Frenchy, you’d better step your game up or you are going to be unemployed next season.

Really? What a shocker...
…’cause I was under the impression that all of MLB was fighting over a guy with a disgusting set of turkey underwear and a Belliardian OPS.
Oh, Bobby.
hey that underwear.....
helped us get a sweep:o}
He didn't wear them.

agreed
mvhsbball, you’re right. I don’t think there’s anything wrong drafting a dud in the first round of the draft. Most of those guys turn out to be busts. The real problem is giving a decidedly poor baseball player nearly 3000 plate appearances. Start Diaz, bench or DFA Frenchy, and do it today.
Disagree
It wouldn’t go over well with the fan base but the Braves aren’t stuck with this guy,if he continues to struggle and the Braves continue to stick with him,I say release him. They wouldn’t be trying to trade him if they were please with him so why continue to stick by him just because he’s from Atlanta. This is a business and if they can release Glavine because they felt he couldn’t get guys out without even giving him a legit chance to prove otherwise, why continue to give this guy a chance even though he has proved that he can’t get it done.
i dont mean this to be mean…but releasing FYF is the stupidest thing that you can do. If we release him we still pay him the money. We get nothing in return. Right now he is offering negative return (if u agree with Fangraphs), but he could still provide us with some value(maybe). You reduce his role, you bench him, you send him to AAA. you do anything you can to get value from the 3+M dollars we paid him this year. But you certainly dont release him, because you get nothing.
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

Understandable
I can see where you’re coming from, but I don’t think you should just stick with a guy simply because he’s a Georgia native. He’s struggling mightly and he’s doing nothing for the Braves eventually if he continues to struggle teams won’t want him even if you give him away, then what.I guess benching him would work but for how long.We need a bat and he and Anderson are stealing money from the Braves instead of being benched or released they both need to be arrested.
I think the minors idea would have been the best route...
But fortunately, he’s not our problem any more!

Not exactly fair to compare the Glavine situation and Francoeur.
Having added Glavine would have put us at a direct financial disincentive. Before Frenchy got traded, he was going to be paid in full regardless.

The Frenchy fan base is fed up with him too.......
Every Braves fan I know in this area wants Frenchy to put out hits or get out of ATL!
The FO would make more fans happy than sad if they traded him!
Of course, he still has a small sample of family and close friends that would be upset if he were traded or released, but nothing like it once was.
I actually think more fans were upset over Glavine and Smoltz, than would be about FYF!
FO needs to do whats best for the team. Maybe FYF can turn things around some where else. This would be great for he and his family. I really feel bad for them with all the negative but true publicity in the area and throughout MLB!
hahaha
nice.
