Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Per MLBTradeRumors.com The "Under the Radar" Arms could be Nick Masset or Brandon League

From a chat transcript with mlbtraderumors.com's Ben Nicholson-Smith

3:15 [Comment From Bobby Cox]
There is a rumor Braves are in hot spot of an "under the radar arm"....any idea who this might by?

3:16 No clue. Here are two guesses: Brandon League and Nick Masset. Both would cost a lot and have a big impact this year and beyond, when Gonz/Soriano could be gone

Obviously this is pure speculation. Like he said they could help us out this year and in the future, after Soriano and Gonzo may be gone.

Knows absolutely nothing besides what the writers post. He knows as much as you and i do.

Thanks for posting this…i saw it too, but i just kinda skipped over it. MLBTR just hires guys who know how to type an update and know a little about baseball. They dont have any insider knowledge or anything like that

Yeah i realize his qualifications

but still, a name or two is better than no names, and i’d at least like to think hes not completely pulling this out of his arse.

I was on the chat too

This speculation is as good as any. If a deal is made, I am sure everyone else will be as surprised as we are.

MLB Trade Rumors ???

MLB Trade rumors post everything from what the gm’s say an think to what I believe amounts to what the janitors cleaning the bathrooms at the ballpark here. Simply just not a really good source but then again is any rumor site; hell even ESPN has become that way we will just have to wait an see what we do; of course we do need another reliever but someone we can control for more than the rest of this season !!

Plus, everytime we think are getting this guy Wren completely pulls something out of his a#%! and gets someone worth while that cost us almost nothing as far as salary an talent for the type of players that we are giving up an recieveing in return.

GO BRAVES an lets filet some fish tonite who’s with me !!!

Actually

MLBTR posts rumors reported by sports writers at ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS, etc. It makes no comment as to the legitimacy of the rumor. However, it is actually a very good resource. For instance, it was one of the first to report the LaRoche-Gonzalez trade a couple of years back.

I'll take Nick Masset for $500, Alex.

He can throw over 1 IP per appearance, gets K’s, 0.990 WHIP. Would be a good addition to the ‘pen… of course, it’s just a name some guy threw out in a chat. I’d be enticed to see what it costs us, though.

Jason Frasor was also discussed?

Masset, but not League

League has an ERA closer to 5 than to 4. Red flags should go up!

he's also got downright filthy stuff

and his peripherals show that he’s pitched much better than his ERA suggests. Just for comp, his FIP is 3.58

BABIP is ridiculously low. Pass. I discussed this last night on BH and decided that Frasor was probably the best bet compared to Wuertz, Masset, and the pile of suck we have rehabbing

by bigjoe on Jul 29, 2009 7:43 AM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn't call a .308 BABIP ridiculously low

in fact it’s a bit on the high side. He also has a low LOB% and a good GO/AO and K/BB. I think you may be looking at the wrong stats.

oh, that makes more sense

I guess you just replied to the wrong post but I agree, I’d probably rather have Frasor or League than the other two.

Yeah, probably. Was rushing to get something down before work and wanted to shill my analysis.
