"I’ll just go down and do my thing and hopefully get another shot up here," [Brooks Conrad] said. "It was a great few weeks. I was glad I was able to come up and contribute to the team. We played good baseball.
"It’s going to be an exciting second half for the Braves. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hopefully I can be part of that."
Cox makes tough decision to demote Conrad | AJC/Braves.com
I love guys like Conrad -- they're just baseball players, and they grind it out year after year, and every once in a while they see the ball as well as any superstar. Conrad was a guy like that for a while, and we sent him down for a guy who isn't making any money and who is hitting like a scared rookie (Norton). I say go with the hot hand. Norton was the hot hand last year, but he isn't this year. He should have been let go and Conrad kept as a pinch hitter -- Conrad's got just as much raw power as Norton and a whole lot more versatility. Props to Conrad for handling it like a pro, though. Brooks! We're rooting for ya, man!

Shocked!
I for one thought he would be given the job after the struggles Johnson has displayed all season.Johnson just might be traded before it’s all said and done.
Brooksy
I liked the way he played while he was here, he hustled all the time!
I hope we get him back soon!
Norton is "not making any money?"
Easy for you to say when you’re not footing the bill.

800k for a major league team is chump change. That is why you can say he is not making any money. We have seen teams this year take the brunt of a 9 million dollar salary “philly” 14 million "Tigers 5 million for the next 5 years “dodgers.” Why cant the Braves drop $800,000 for a player who is not producing what so ever. I think this move has other meanings to it besides just the money, because clearly money is not the factor.
Baseball is my life
You say this
every damn time someone mentions Norton. He is not hitting at all, and he is making just over the league minimum. Not a real wallet breaking decision here.

On the whole money thing (Norton)....
What’s worse? Paying a guy $800K and have him be a detriment to your bench (or) pay the same $800K (if you send him down or release him) and have on your bench a hustling player that has been producing that you’re paying minor league salary to already. You’re still out the same cash, yet there may be a few more runs/rbis in the box score, fewer RISP left on the bases and more wins.
I just don’t understand the logic of this. I think Brooks Conrad should have been given the opportunity to stay with the way he’s been playing. I never looked at his at bats an automatic out the entire time he was here. I can’t say that for Norton this year.
I like Norton personally, he really helped our team last year. But, like I’ve commented before, there are pitchers on our staff who are more of a threat at the plate this year. I’m no expert, but this makes no sense to me whatsoever when the guy was doing so well.
And if I may ask…who actually makes this decision? Is it Bobby, Wren or a combination of the two?

Well, not exactly...
You have to pay Conrad the ML minimum on top of what you’re paying Norton not to play.
