I was just bored at work and looking at the odds on yahoo. Most bookies have us with a
-175 edge pretty much. Except one that has us as a plus 180. I’m not a betting man but dang, we’re not that big of underdogs…

I’d take it with 355. Maybe they know something we don’t but looking at it for face value I’ll take a 3.5 times payout. Especially with the Mets playing the way they have been, Santana or no Santana.

Negative #’s are favored, positive numbers are underdogs.
If you put 100$ on a team that has a positive number by it, then you win your 100 bucks back plus that positive #. On negative numbers, you have to bet that negative number to win 100 bucks plus your bet money back.

I think they keep showing him so much because he is trying to get the economy back on its feet, and Baseball is taking a direct hit from a bad economy. Some say they dont want politics in baseball I agree, but we need this economy to turn around.

Speaking of bad calls by umps…
today, in the 1-pitch softball tourney I was playing in, we lost the first game. So, in the second game, we are batting in the 2nd inning and one of our guys hits a ball just on the left side of the 3B bag. Well, in a 1-pitch tourney, that is an out. Our guy was pissed at himself, threw his bat back at our dugout and said the F word.

It sucked. The ump should have given a warning first, IMO.

It was a tough situation, Valdez is a rookie who just got called up, but Acosta after pitching yesterday in a high leverage situation, definitely not. I think I would have went with Medlen.
i would agree with this… but i dont think Acosta was a bad move (just not the best move)

Manny Acosta is the Jeff Francoeur of pitchers. Gets so much playing time despite sucking for 2 years.

wusss. I won a game where we started a man down.. our SS got kicked out and we (or rather I) came back to win the game… down 2 came back… down one in extras tied it up… then walk off single by me.. we beat a team int he quarters down 2 men with our best hitter ejected.

Acosta wasnt that bad last year…when he was actually rested… if you remember he pitched on no rest constantly and was overused … he isnt great by any stretch but he isnt horrible

Acosta’s a luckbox for keeping his ERA under 4. He walks way too many batters and can’t locate his fastball consistently (which is why he gets hit often). His FIP 4.16 this season, the lowest of his career. That’s fine as someone pitching in a 2+ run game in the 6th or 7th, but not someone you send out in 1 run games in the 9th. He’s just not good and his ERA masks his poor pitching, just like Jeff Francoeur hid behind his RBI totals.
well i never said he should be used in this game…. and im not defending him as a great pitcher… i am merely saying he is prob a decent option at this point with Gonzo hurt and EOF as well… we don’t know what Medlen can do because Bobby never pitches him (whole nother debate)… he is probably the 4th 5th best option out of the pen which doesnt make him great or anything

That’s a perfectly fair and reasonable assessment. The Gonzo injury hurts the depth. I would have much rather seen Soriano (he’s had some rest) and, in reality, Medlen is probably not much better/worse than Acosta at this point. I guess I just have a small vendetta against the guy who failed a lot in the past instead of the rookie who hasn’t pissed me off as much.
