The folks at BtB make a compelling argument to get Willie Harris out of the bargain bin. I definitely agree that we need help in the field, and UZR is pretty big on Harris.

Yeah, he gets on base way too much to be a Brave!

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t go after Harris unless maybe there was an injury and the price was much lower than they’re saying.

I do think that Harris is a really underrated player though.

He's from Cairo, GA.

That’s close to the end of his list of credentials for playing on the Braves.

Hmm...

I guess they make a good argument, but I doubt Bobby would put him in the lineup over GA, and if we do care about making the playoffs, I’d take Anderson’s experience over Willie come October any day.

I concede that Cox wouldn’t ever start him often enough.

I’d take Anderson’s experience over Willie come October any day.

Garret Anderson is not any better in the postseason; in 154 post-season PA’s, has a .661 OPS, compared with .794 over his career. Just because he’s old doesn’t mean he’s good.

...as opposed to a guy who's managed a .679 OPS in his whole career?

Yeah, I’ll take the dude who’s been there.

Don’t forget to ignore Wilie’s steady improvements over the last 2-3 years and ignore Garret Anderson’s decline over the last 2-3 years.

I won't.

I don’t know if you remember, but he already played here, and he was not very good.

.270/..349/.392 with very good defense is good (in fact, above average), and better than Garret Anderson’s .290/.330/.450 ceiling combined with poor defense. I’m being pretty generous on that ceiling too.

I know the Braves aren’t going to trade for Harris, but it’s pretty obvious that he’s been a much better player than Garret Anderson from 2007 to today.

Which very good defense are you talking about?

His ’09 UZR150 is -10!

Harris has a higher wOBA this year; in fact, he’s been worth almost 9 more runs above average

Where would he play?

GA is really hitting like the “professional” he is.

We already have Diaz and Church.

And McLouth has CF locked down.

The idea was that he was an overall upgrade over Anderson.

Not too much worse with the bat (if at all), and way better with the glove.

Shoulda kept Willie instead of trading for Kotsay!

by VictorW on Jul 17, 2009 7:27 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Word.

Teixiera for Marek straight up.

Teixiera had nothing to do with the Kotsay trade. You’re thinking of Kotchman.

Accurate.

Whoops.

Haha I messed up too

I don’t know where I got Kotchman in the Kotsay trade. I guess I meant Devine. I’m too confused

Willie Harris went to my college.

Schafer for Willie?

Um, no thanks. Why trade a 22 (I think) kid who could one day be a poor man’s Grady Sizemore in center for an aging and maybe at best average LF?
