Early Thursday evening, a Braves source once again confirmed that the club hasn't made a single attempt to even explore the possibility of moving Escobar. But he did confirm that rumor mill has at least led some teams to inquire about the availiability of the highly-skilled shortstop.
Mark Bowman lays out the Yunel Escobar trade landscape
This makes sense as most of the rumors we are hearing about Escobar are coming from other teams. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, I think Frank Wren would have to be blown away by an offer to consent to trading Escobar, especially with no everyday replacement shortstop in the Braves system.
Bowman also speculates that if the Braves fall out of contention that Rafael Soriano would be the most attractive trade chip, and the Tigers would make a good fit... but let's hope we don't fall out of contention.

The Phillies are playing well
I don’t want to sell either, but if the Phillies are up 7 or 8 games on July 31st, how in the world do you not trade Soriano and Gonzalez?
There is a risk in offering both arbitration in this economy. I know some think that Wren woul dhave no problem paying Soriano 8 million and Gonzo 5 million next year through arb., but I’d bet Wren does have a problem with that. Not offering arbitration means no draft pick compensation.
I’m for keeping them if we are in it, but if we are more than 5 or 6 out at the deadline and a team approaches us with an offer of two good prospects, you have to do it.
sadly,
I agree. And just as we began to get use to shut down guys in the pen. What’s the return policy on Lowe? We could of signed both of these guys for under Lowe’s salary. Hindsight, of course, but that is gonna bite us in the wallet.
How do you figure?
We’re paying him $15 mil, and he’s on pace to earn $17.1 this season based on WAR.

My figuring is
We have starting pitching depth to fill in admirably, albeit, not Lowe-like but there is absolutely no one to replace Soriano and Gonzo if they leave and it’ll be a glaring weakness.
And yet you forget...
we once picked up some no-name reliever named Soriano or something for practically nothing from the Mariners and he turned out to be pretty decent.

so you're hoping
we find a diamond in the rough, I’d rather not leave something so important to chance as much as I trust our scouting, difference of opinion or level of faith I suppose.
It very well...
maybe that Soriano is our best trade chip. I have thought over the past month that Medlen could be groomed for an 8th inning setup role for Gonzo. This is not that I do not think that Soriano is a real good closer but from an economic standpoint we would only have to deal with one of the two in the off season.Like Vasquez, I would not want to give him up, yet if the right exchange could be found and Medlen performs okay in that role….you just cannot close your ears to an offer.
I for one , hopes Esco stays with Braves for the next 20 years. He is an exciting player to watch.
I don't think they are trading Esco
But I’d bet they will listen. Soriano and Gonzo are the two trade chips this team has. With the farm system baron after Freeman and Heyward(it is, don’t give me Low-A or rookie pitchers, most people have no idea what they will become), the Braves could use some high minors position prospects.

actually...
it’s not that barren…there are MANY upside arms. just like you say you can’t predict what they will become, you can’t predict that they will be failures, either. law of numbers would state that act least 3-5 would be every day players.

What makes you think Medlen could be a bullpen guy?
He hasn’t had success in a high-leverage situation yet.

I’d prefer to keep both but if we can only keep one, I’d prefer Soriano. Gonzo is a standup guy but I’m more comfortable with Soriano. And it’s all about me, of course.

I have posted and talked about trades involving Escobar but it was always about what I wanted for him and not that I ever wanted to move him.
Right now he is just too valueable to the lineup (not even considering his value on the field). He is now the right handed bat we were looking for Frenchy to be that can hit for average and some power behInd chipper and heap. Our 1-5 is set right now with full time regulars after what seems like a long time without. GA, Diaz, Church, Kotchman, Infante, and Conrad can capably fill out the other three spots without an auto out anywhere.

I see the Braves closing in on the Phillies. Church really helps and the position players are due for a rebound overall.

yeah.
The Thillies aren’t going to be playing knock-off teams like the Pirates and Commies forever. They are due for another tumble.
And I know they are dreading playing us. As they should be.

I think the sooner the Phillies upgrade their rotation
The less chance the Braves have of overtaking first place in the division. Unless of course the Phillies suffer a devastating injury to one of their big bats.
here's how you become a contender, and I don't expect this to go down well

not an awful idea
but he is old and slow, he pretty much has to be a DH by now. And no organization will take that risk on him.
