Frenchy's Reception When He Returns
I was just wondering what everyone thought Francouer's reception would be like in his return to Atlanta. As hard as he has made it for me to like him these past 2 years, I would still hate to see him booed. I wouldn't boo him if I were in the stands and was just wondering what you would do if you were there. I would think that most fans wouldn't, but I am surprised by people everyday.

They should cheer.
And they will cheer.
2009 Atlanta Braves Motto: We ♥ leaving RISP AND Omar Minaya!
I would boo, wear a Failcoeur shirt, and make a sign where on one side, I have a scoreboard with OBP on it, and on the other side, I will write “Hey Frenchy, Schafer hasn’t been here for 2 months – what’s your excuse now???”

I’m going to be there. And I’m not sure what I will do. I’ll boo if everyone else boos. But I will not cheer if everyone else is cheering. You know, it’s not that he is a bad player. That’s not what I have against him. It’s his attitude. It’s the whining about his place in the batting order. It’s how he finds being sent to the minors embarrassing. It’s how Frenchy comes before the Braves. His success is what matters to him, not the team’s. So not only did he not contribute, frankly, he didn’t even care. Interviews with guys like McCann and Medlen and many others show that when they are in slumps, they recognize it and their motivation for coming out of it is to help the team win. Francoeur never had that attitude and that’s what made him such a poor Brave. He doesn’t deserve a get-out-of-jail free card just because he sucks. If he were good and had that attitude, I am positive I would feel the same way about him.

I agree
Compare Francoeur getting sent to AA to KJ losing the starting job. While Francoeur whined and complained and made excuses, KJ took it like a man, acknowledged that he had not been getting it done, and was willing to do whatever it took to help the team win. Much more classy, KJ.

As a fan who cannot be there...
Please give him a polite welcome. I am not saying to give him an hour long standing ovation. But the guy did work he butt off, the long term talent just was not there.
A nice applause and maybe a slight snicker when he swings at the first pitch!

And he also bitched and moaned regularly.

Booing is for free agency departures
Or those who demanded trades and denounced the city they played for. I’m expecting if anything at all, a polite applause, and probably a good bit of people standing in ovation for once highly touted, heralded local high school star, and even maybe a few remnant 14-year old girl shrills, because he deserves, at least, that much.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
i think you’re right. If he rarely got booed while he sucked here, i wouldn’t expect him to get booed now. There were still alot of people in his corner. I think my reaction Friday will be indifference. I plan on using all my love for the Maddux ceremony. They haven’t released any info about what time all the festivites start have they?
"Ohhhh Shit."-Bobby Cox, 3/28/09
The real stuff is the Greg Maddux Luncheon at the CNN center.
Before the game, I imagine they’ll start at like 6:30 or so, to bring him out on field, hopefully let him throw out the first pitch, and present his #31 placard on the LF stands.

I'll be @ CNN Center...will I see you there?

Oh, Bobby.
i got that day marked on my calendar.

I will cheer
I’ll be in the stands and I will cheer for him. It’s not like his struggles came from lack of effort. Seeing how he’s swinging after yesterday (I know it’s only been two games), I’m even more of the thought process that TP doesn’t know how to be an effective hitting coach. I’d even be willing to allow Frenchy a homer in Turner Field, just as long as it doesn’t cost us the game =)
I’m not sure, but this deal could come back to bite us directly in the buttocks.

Don’t worry about Francoeur hitting a HR. He’d have to get it out of the infield for that…
The only way this trade will bite us in the buttocks is if you really like GIDP’s. That’s all Francoeur has done over the last few years. He will never be good until he learns some plate discipline, and if he hasn’t done it by now, why should any of us believe he would suddenly be able to? He may still be young, but he’s played baseball for probably 20 years now. If it hasn’t worked yet, it ain’t ever gonna.
Tex was booed incredulously so nothing would suprise me. Tex didn’t do anything wrong. He was traded for other players because the Braves couldn’t come close to the enormous offer that was to come from the Yankees. But the fans booed anyway.
Frenchy is a hometown kid that started off huge and got a ton of praise for starting off hot in the pros. The pressure seemed to get to him and his game has been going constantly downhill for almost two years. But as a guy that grew up a Braves fan and got a chance to play for them its unfortunate that he went out this way.
He was very liked in the clubhouse which tells you what kind of guy he was. So if there are boos (and I’m sure there will be some) I’d say that says more about the people booing than it does about him.
what’s wrong with not approving of a selfish, “me first” player who blamed others for his shortcomings?
It is one thing to boo a player due to their lack of skill. It is completely another ball of wax to boo a player for the reasons listed already in this thread.

Tex didn’t do anything wrong.
This would be true if people in the South didn’t see the Yankees as completely everything that is bad about baseball.
I’m hoping at, at least the first at-bat, Frenchy will get a welcome response. It really is hit or miss, because Glavine was booed until Smoltz called out the city, while Julio Franco got a standing ovation in his first return to Atlanta while wearing a Mets uni.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
VERY different circumstances.
Julio went elsewhere after we were basically done with him and he had little left to offer on the field. Glavine left for a very comprable offer to our biggest rivals when he was still ready to pitch well.

Not quite
Franco was on a year-to-year basis with the Braves. When Omar Minaya guaranteed two years and a significant raise, he bolted.

Point was...
We didn’t really want him back badly at all. And given his 667 OPS in those last two years, it worked out just fine.

Tex spurned us for Yankee money. I’m not saying he didn’t deserve Yankee money, but that is why he got booed, IMO.

Between the always huge number of Mets fans at the Ted and the fact that Frenchy had a ridiculously huge fan following in Atlanta, no matter how poorly he played, anyone who boos him will easily be shouted down by the Mets fans and the girls in pink Francoeur shirts.
In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Church were to get more boos than Frenchy.
I boo every Met. Frenchy is no exception.
"Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win!"
IMO
If the fans in the Ted boo Frenchy, we will fit the description some define us as “The Redneck Southerners”.
Booing players is personal and in bad taste.
Remember, this is a bog, and everyone has their right to agree to disagree without making it personal.
I am happy Frenchy is with another team. I was ready for him to move on, now he did!!
Why to we continue to have post surrounding him, and still so much negativity? He is being a much bigger man than most of us are.
In the interviews, and from what I’ve read, he has not publicly said anything negative about us the fans, or the Braves organization. Let’s move on, shall we?
I disagree
A boo doesn’t mean “I hate you, you freaking slob. Go choke on a knife!”
I think it means “I disapprove of what you did”. Whether that be something they did on the field, something they injected, or something they said. In Frenchy’s case, I think it has way more to do with things he said and his attitude than it does him sucking at baseball.

Wait, so booing is for rednecks?
There sure are more than I thought in Philly, NY, and Boston.
What makes him a bigger man, exactly? People loved him. It was Francoeur who ran himself out of town, through both his pitiful performance at the plate and his terrible attitude. When he complained about how terribly disrespected he felt for being sent down to Mississippi, that’s negative. When he complained about the terrible burden of having to hit in front of Schafer and the pitcher, that’s negative. When he whined about hwo he needed to go somewhere else so he could “get a chance” after we’ve run him out there every single day for two years of suck, that’s negative.
Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.

Lack of maturity instead of malice...
From what I read, a lot if not most Braves fans feel it’s best Frenchy is playing for another team.
Some feel he acted and spoke selfishly and immaturely at times while here. While not professional at all, I think perhaps it came more from a lack of maturity than malice.
I get the feeling he’s pretty much been a spoiled brat for a very long time and used to getting his way. His early success in sports, big smile and demeanor made people want to like him ever since he was a young kid in school. So when things didn’t go like he expected them to (especially after breaking into the ML with fanfare and success), he pouted and got frustrated.
As time goes on, life and baseball still has lessons to teach Frenchy. Hopefully they will help mature him and he’ll come to know it’s not always all about him.
As far as booing? Well, I for one would not if I were there because I don’t think at this point that Frenchy has dissed the Braves publicly …but more importantly, as a Braves fan, I wouldn’t want to act or sound rude like Mets fans sometimes do.
"Well behaved women rarely make history" ~ Laurel Ulrich
I want to go on Sunday, but won't be able to make it...
Because my brother’s been really sick, and I’m not going to be a dick and go to a ballgame without him, when he’s sitting at home sick like this.
We both wanted to go, and fully intended upon booing regardless of what the rest of the crowd does. I won’t lie, I booed the guy when he was a Brave so him being a Met is certainly no reason to suddenly come support him. I hope they rain down boos on the guy. I still don’t understand why he’s the only person people are concerned about booing. Maybe that makes me rude or something, frankly I don’t give a damn. I’m passionate about my team, and if I’m going to pay big league $ to go to a ball game it’s well within my right to express myself within grounds of reason. The Ted tends to be one of the more lackadaisical ballparks around, and what’s odd is that the fanbase nearly prides itself on their borderline stoicism. I mean Derek Lowe got the best ovation all year when he pitched in Fenway, how sad is that?
Anyways, the original plan was to wear the Failcoeur tee and my brother and friend of ours all go sit out in right field and do what we do best. Make lots of noise. But with my brother sick and the doctor’s not even knowing what the diagnosis is, I’ll be staying in Tennessee this time.
Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.
Timmy
your brother will be in my thoughts, as well as you and your family, as your brother struggles with this illness.
I hope y’all get a diagnosis soon, and he will feel better quickly.
Positive thoughts,
From TN.
