Went to the Triple A All-Star "Fan Fest" yesterday. It was pretty much underwhelming. Just by the turn out - there is no way Portland will ever get a MLB Franchise.
But all was not lost, I was able to snag this autograph, one that will rank at the top. Not only is Dale Murphy just huge - but he is the most gracious guy in person. At first I wasn't going to wait in line 2 hours to get his autograph.
But he was signing some as he was trying to leave, someone was trying to wisk him off. And he told the handler to just wait a minute. He wasn't about to leave without signing every single autograph in front of him.
I'll be at media day on Tuesday. Though I might not get to attend the actual game.

My all time fave player. I’m glad to know he’s as a great a guy as I always thought he was.

..me to. The reason I wore #3 in Little League and Jr. High. He was a great guy – aging well though I could tell he was moving a bit slow because of the knees but a great guy.

Such a shame
Because I hear the park where the Beavers play is actually really nice, one of the best AAA joints in all of MiLB.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Thanks for sharing!
Dale Murphy belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Why?
He was very good for a short time, but over his career, he was pretty much decent at best.

Yeah..
…cause you know being a back to back MVP on loosing teams isn’t enough?

No.
Two years, no matter how good, do not make you a Hall of Famer.

Ok, I’m just not going to even move forward with the rest of this conversation. Because your mind is set and mine is. We’ll just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Guys like Jim Rice and Harold Baines are the definition of borderline Hall of Famers. Murphy’s bat is comparable to Baines’s, but Baines had a longer career. Murphy played about the same length as Jim Rice, but Rice had a better bat. Murphy eclipses both these players because he played half his games in CF with a good defensive reputation while Rice was a DH 1/4 of his career, and a corner outfielder the other 3/4. Baines DH’d over half his career. Murphy was considered an elite defender at a premium defensive position and that makes him a better player than these borderline HoF/low tier HoF players. It is the same reason why someone like Curtis Granderson is a better player than Adam Dunn.
At the very worst, Murphy is a borderline HoF or low tier HoF player based on his performance. In addition to a player’s contribution on the field, Hall of Fame voters are told to judge character as well. In the worst case scenario, Murphy’s reputation as an outstanding citizen should be enough incentive as a tiebreaker to get him into the Hall of Fame.

Check my profile pic over there, you know what’s up. The Murph is freaking awesome. I never met him before then I saw him in Richmond last year and in ST this year. The guy is as classy as they come. The Hall Of Fame is ridiculous.

He’s my absolute favorite all time player.

He is a great guy to meet
I stood inline for about an hour just to be one of the first people to talk to him. I was lucky enough to shake his hand and get this
