Where To Stay?
I'll be going to Atlanta to see a couple of games during the Mets series. I haven't booked my hotel yet. Any suggestions? Some things that I'm looking for are:
a. Cheap and walking distance to the stadium
Or
b. Cheap and not too bad a drive
Do you know of any places that offer shuttles to the games? Or a nice place that is close to public transportation? I don't care too much about frills. As long as the place isn't a complete dump, I'm not too picky. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I don’t know how much it is but there is a HoJo right next to the stadium. Walk across the street and you’re at the gates.

It looks nice on the outside too. It isn’t a dump at all. I always park there when I come down for games.

I stayed there
it isn’t bad at all.
I recommend Priceline.com and name your own price though…I have stayed at the Radisson downtown for less than $90/night.

Pretty much anything in Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead (and there are countless hotels in those areas) is near MARTA so you can get to the games really easily and have other stuff to do when you’re not at the game.

Honestly if you want to do anything in Atlanta you need to have a car, so I would say driving distance and stay in a nice hotel in midtown or something.

Thanks for the tips too
Trying to decide myself if I want to make the trek east for the Maddux number retiring…

Not a whole lot of options
There is a Holiday Inn and a Courtyard within walking distance to the Ted, but I’ve heard they have a tendency to gauge their prices based on homestands and quality of opponents. Obviously, being Atlanta local, I’ve never had to stay there, so I cannot attest to the prices myself.
There is no real public transportation to the game that is easy. You can stay at almost any downtown hotel that has MARTA access, but you’d have to ride it to Five Points/Underground Atlanta, and then transfer through a questionable area to the public buses which will take you to the Ted.
I’d recommend, if you’ve got a car, staying somewhere on the south end, near the airport, where there are lots of cheaper hotels/motels, and you’d be within a 15 minute drive to Turner Field, and approaching from the south end, you might not get stuck in as much pre-game/post-game traffic.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Well, as a hotel employee I can weigh in at least on the last little bit. Of course hotels raise & lower their prices with what’s going on in the community. Why wouldn’t we? Big ball game…people NEED to have a place to stay…prices will probably be $10-$30 higher than their usual rate. The problem you run into is that if comfort & amenities are what you require, then you’ll have a hard time finding a room for less than $100 per night. Any solid brand name property (InterContinental Hotels, Hilton, Marriott, Choice, etc) are going to be on the upper tier. Then you have some of the smaller properties on the lower rung…Days Inn, Radisson, Red Roof Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, etc…these will give you a bed & anything else is extra. The problem with some of these is the value of the stay will vary time to time. Sometimes you’ll get an exceptionally clean room, good service, etc…Other times you’ll find a pretty terrible room & the front desk person will be a douche. These reasons alone I’d always pay a little bit more for a stay that is generally much better than the alternative. This isn’t saying that you can’t have a good time at a lesser hotel, just playing the odds & putting the odds in your favor.
