Game 86 Recap: Braves 4, Rockies 1

A Frenchy-less game, and a Frenchy-less win. Derek Lowe found his ability to pitch again, putting in a strong effort and limiting the damage through 6 innings. If not for a one-hour rain delay, he may have had enough to go into the eighth inning.

Garret Anderson provided some runs in the first inning on an almost-homerun double to right field that plated two. The Rockies starter settled down after that, holding the Braves scoreless until the eighth, when Diory Hernandez (don't call his name very often) added a two-run double of his own off the Rockies pen.

Rafael Soriano picked up the save, but the real save of the night should go to Eric O'Flaherty. With runners on second and third and one out in the eighth inning, O'Flaherty came in to face the Rockies two toughest hitters, Todd Helton and Brad Hawpe, and struck them both out. That was a critical moment in the game and EOF came up big.

THIS!

Very enjoyable game to watch.

Nice to see Lowe do well and in this ballpark it was huge for him and us. His post game interview was great, you could tell he was happy about his performance.

I’m excited about tonight…facing an ex-Brave and hoping we can show him (Marquis) what an “All-Star” pitcher really looks like in Jurrgens. We’ve only given him an average of 2 runs in 9 of his last 18 games, if we had supported him (and Vazquez) better the AS roster may look a bit different.

Eric O has Mos Def earned his spot.

maybe Bobby will use him as such.

I think we have a good BP. EOF, Acosta, Logan, Medlen, Moylan, Gonzo and Rafy can all come in a get the job done. And with the call up of Valdez, I think things will get even better.

It’s a shame how often they disappoint us, though.

Bullpen

It was nice to keep Moylan and Gonzo out of the game! Soriano did not go the night before (did he?) and he looked good.

Acosta was good for that first inning and I do not blame Cox for sending him back out with a three run lead. But you are right about EOF – he came up BIG!!! And Acosta was the first one to thank him in the dugout. He was waiting at the stairs.

Fun Game!!!

1-0

in the post- Frenchy era.

Pete Rose was actually banned from baseball for teaching Jeff Francoeur how to play. He made up the gambling stuff to hide his shame.
