Brilliant trade.
Frank Wren accomplished two things with this trade. He got he Braves a better RF and he single handidly made the Mets a non factor in the race this year. Nice job.
And I don't think FW is done. We still need a bat. I hope Garret is on a month-to-month lease. Maybe it's just me but Garret seems like the laziest ballplayer ever. Sure he can kinda sorta track down some fly balls, but he just seems lackadaisical on the bases. I don't think I've seen maximum effort on a grounder all year. Although, i will say he did a nice job admiring his double today before running it out. Where's Brandon Jones? I say if KJ who is on the "DL" while playing every day at AAA, learns how to hit again. We use Prado in LF. If, of course, FW can't work out a deal for a LFer with pop.
sorry if this is rosterbating, not completely sure of the concept yet.

1. First off, trading Church for Frenchy doesn’t end the Mets season. Church is a decent player and all, but he has TWO homers for them. Its not like we got Carlos Beltran. And speaking of Beltran, the Mets have half their team on the DL. They’ll all be coming back within a month or two. The Mets might be a non factor for a few weeks, but as long as they’re within single digit games, I wouldn’t count them out just yet.
2. I actually think Wren IS done dealing. At the start of the day, we had 3 guys who have some salary on them who are possibly tradeable (KJ, Javy and FYF) and we just lost Frenchy. Maybe we could trade KJ, but for what? At this point, we’d have to give up some top prospects + KJ to make a deal for an impact bat, and i just dont see anybody (not to mention, we’re STILL broke as hell).
3. Do you really want Brandon Jones as your starting LF? We had this discussion 2 months ago, and how many HR does BJones have since then @ Gwinett? ZERO. Not to mention Marteeeen has never played in LF.
Oh, and Garrett Anderson is one of our best and hottest hitters as of late. I’d take below-average D and above average hitting over decent defense and below average hitting any day of the week.
I think our offense is set for now. And don’t forget Infante will be back by the end of the month. When he was healthy, he was raking. He’ll be a great utility guy for us at 2nd/SS/3rd and LF, not to mention a nice threat off the bench as a pinch hitter.
If i had to put money on who we would get via trade, i would put it on a solid relief pitcher.
This is just my two cents. Who knows, maybe we’ll add Holliday and V-Mart and totally destroy our farm system. Or maybe we’ll lose 20 out of our next 25 and have a huge firesale in preparation for 2010 and beyond. Who knows. That’s kinda the theme of the 2009 Atlanta Braves. You never know what your gonna get.

Prado actually has played in LF before. And Anderson really isn’t that great of a hitter. Without speed, singles don’t really matter.

you would seriously rather have Brandon jones in LF instead of GA?

I didn’t say that. You said Anderson is one of our best hitters (of late). I’d argue that he’s not because he’s a singles hitter. Sure, he gets on some, but he doesn’t walk, doesn’t hit for power, and can’t run. He’s not one of our best hitters.
This in no way equates to me saying Brandon Jones should be playing over him.

honestly
does it really matter when he was a key piece in the vazquez trade.

You are aware that Anderson doesn't have many fewer XBH (8) in the last three weeks as Jones has had ALL YEAR (14)...
Right?

If you read my post above this, I wasn’t comparing Anderson and Jones at all. I was talking about Anderson, alone. You inferred the comparison.

"Where's Brandon Jones?"
Then what was the point of that statement, exactly?

“Without speed, singles don’t really matter”
If a player gets a single and is on first base for the next batter to come up and hit a HR.
That makes it a two run homer compared to a single HR, which could possibly make the difference in the final score.
I don’t understand your statement!

MP, I do that, and it shows that it will be where I want it to be, but to my dismay, it doesn’t work for me.
Any other suggestions I might try?

That’d be fine if we really had any HR hitters on the team. But we don’t, so even if the guy behind him hits a double, he can’t score from first. Plus, his Francoeurian .307 OBP means he’s not even getting enough to make this scenario matter.

Even though he's a Met now can we keep the term "Francoeurian"
It rolls off the tongue beautifully. Who knows? Maybe one day people will hold him in the same breath as Mario Mendoza.

2 HRS isn’t really indicative of his power. David Wright has 5. That stadium is killing their power numbers.
Here's a question
If Citi Field keeps playing the way it does (barring moving a fence or two I see no reason why it wouldn’t) do the Mets eventually have to worry that David Wright will become displeased with it to the point of wanting out? Junior Griffey was a Mariners lifer until they built Safeco and it’s pretty well documented that he got sick of what used to be home runs dying at the warning track. Thoughts?

Too early
Not saying the new Citi field isn’t a “dead zone” but it’s a little too early to say either way. Wright isn’t a good example to use in that he’s got more HR’s at home than away and he has more doubles on the road. You also aren’t taking into account the “rumors” that Wright has changed his approach this year.
I believe ultimately you will be proven correct though, that field appears to be huge.
You aren’t the czar of typographic emphasis
I meant end the Mets season, as in; the Mets now have FYF, and they are screwed for that reason. Jesus have a cup of decaf. It is after all only a game. Laugh once in a while, see sarcasm for what it is. It’s baseball, it’s fun, it’s not life or death. Relax, pal.

The Trade and our Team and why I disagree with some of what the OP implies.
We have no idea how Frenchy is going to play in NY, for all we know, with a new hitting coach and having had a great offensive night just before leaving, he may turn around and bite us in the butt. This would not be the first time this has happened to us. The Mets also have some of their better players coming off DL soon.
I hope and pray Ryan Church will play with the numbers he has away from home, because in reality that would mean all games in ATL will be like an away game for awhile at least.
Also, GA has been hitting well lately, and actually hustling down the line. Of course, we all know he’s old and slow in the outfield. this said I’ve also noticed he appears to be more comfortable at home on a field he has grown to get familiar with, Nate is fast and takes a number of the balls for GA, and GA gets the ones he knows he can.GA knows his limits, he can’t climb wall or fences and does as best he can with the legs he has to work with.
I don’t think the FO and Bobby would have got him had they not looked at films of him, and realized what he had to offer, and that is to add some hits on the offensive side, and he is beginning to spread doubles around, and add some hits, when most needed. I feel our OF will be fine with, RC, NM and GA platooning with Diaz.
We have to play more consistently, and get our BP some help, and do the small things right, and we can compete with any team out there!
I’m cautionally optimistic that we have the pieces to the puzzle to win our division!
I like the analogy. We’re like a jigsaw puzzle in a kindergarten class. Some pieces are missing, some might belong to other puzzles, and still others have been chewed on and probably need to be thrown away. But at the end of the day, you still have fun trying, even though the puzzle probably isn’t finished or perfect…and you get to take a nap after lunch!

Umm...
Francoeur tried that whole “new hitting coach” thing. Jaramillo couldn’t do shit with him. Why would you think somebody else could?

Actually, Jaramillo got him swinging good for awhile. Then Frenchy went back to his same old stance and swing.
...he did?
Was that in April, when he had a whopping .729 OPS?

I read and heard Jaramillo helped Frenchy a lot.. In ST he looked improved, until the aggressive TP got back in the mix of things.
I heard Chipper say the same thing, without using TP’s name. He just said Frenchy was much better until everyone started telling him their opinions.
LOL,, he’s gone and in his first 2 games he did really well, small sample size but if he improves I think it’s time to begin looking at other hitting coaches! We have had several players start hitting well once they got out of ATL. Derossa is the first to come into mind.
I also hope Church improves 0 for 9. I’m sure he will….
DeRosa is the same player he always was.
If he plays a position in an everyday role, he falls apart. If he gets moved around as a club’s 9th starter or top backup, though, he can be effective enough. I don’t know who those other players you’ve mentioned who suddenly got better when they left, but I’m certain there are just as many who didn’t, not to mention there have been players who showed up here and hit better than they ever had.
Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.

I actually agree with the above. I think Wren is done dealing for an outfielder. The other night, when FYF had three doubles, you really saw what the offense is capable of when there’s not a black hole in the middle of your lineup. With Church, we are now playing with an 8 man hitting lineup instead of a 7 man lineup.
I’m kinda sad to see Francouer go, though. I liked him. I often felt that he was one or two adjustments away from being a really good ball player. I hope he finds success in NY. I’m a bit worried because the NY fans and media are not like the Atlanta fans and media. It took two years of futility before Atlanta fans were tired of him. NY fans boo you if you go 0-4.
I’m also excited about Church. He’s a player I’ve always liked. He is one of those scrappy go full tilt ball players that plays the game the right way. Our outfield is going to be a strange combination of hitters on different days, but I look forward to seeing how it works out.
Aren't there like, 4 or 5 other "Frenchy is traded" threads already? rhetorical.
