Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Poll

If it's Friday, then it's the Atlanta Braves fan confidence poll. This poll and therefore your confidence level should encompasses several areas of the team. These areas include, but are not limited to, the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, and general playing ability on the field. The poll will stay open for 48 hours, and then the results will be posted and graphed against the previous weeks.

Poll
On a scale of 1-to-10, with 10 being "100 percent confident," and 1 being "no confidence at all," how confident are you in the Atlanta Braves organization?

Giving this organization anything less than a 5 is just asinine. How can you honestly say that the organization (as defined by Gondee in the header – the team’s ownership, current management, talent, minor-league system, and general playing ability on the field) is below average?

Some of you people are just Negative Nancys and Debbie Downers.

I don't see how anyone gives the Braves more than ...

a 5 and even a 4 or 3 is ok with me. We have a new GM who is unproven We have a 98 million dollar payroll but are losing to a team with a 33 million dollar one in the Marlins. Seems like to me that we aren’t getting the bang for the buck or trade that we should be. In addition, the 98 million is about all we are going to get to spend from Liberty Media. I miss the old days when we could spend a little bit more to get players. I’m not talking about Yankee level spending but we were always in it for FA agents and trades.

What else could get the organization at 3 or 4? Liberty Media is a lifeless media conglomerate that seems to not care about the Braves like Turner did.

Oh, the team hasn’t been to the playoffs in years and played good consistent baseball in a long time. We got a horrible RF. Our second basemen forgot how to play. Our catcher has eye problems like look to be corrected but should be a concern to all. The team’s top everyday player is in his mid-30s and is continually hurt.

Currently the ball club is a below 500 team and plays inconsistent baseball. There doesn’t seem to be a winning streak of more than 3 or 4 games.

An unproven GM? How long does it take, or how many moves does he have to make to satisfy you?

He brought us Jair Jurrjens. He brought us Javier Vasquez. He has done some amazing things and is going into his 3rd year after having been an assistant GM for many years more.

Sure, we are 3 games behind a $33M dollar team. We also just split 6 games with the two teams with the highest payroll in baseball. We are 19-15 against the MLB’s top 10 (payroll) teams (with 4 of the losses to the Redsox). We are also a game ahead of the 2nd highest paid team in baseball.

Liberty Media has not cut the Braves’ payroll yet, and if I remember correctly, they have increased it from what it was.

The team hasn’t been to the playoffs. You are right. Neither has the majority of other MLB teams out there (over the same time-span).

This just proves what I said about fans voting based on the MLB club’s wins and losses.

Spin it any way you want...

but we are a sub-500 team.

Your statements show how far expectations have fallen for Braves’ fans. We think it is ok or that the organization and GM are doing well (at least above a 5 rating) if they get a couple of good players and play sub-500 ball and not make the playoffs for years. That’s just crazy.

Any GM will remain unproven until they put together a team that makes the playoffs.

Finally, I am not sure how taking one of my statements proves anything about fans basing their votes on the club’s wins/losses. I listed a bunch of reasons in my previous post, not just wins/losses. By the way one must consider the product on the field to determine the organization’s overall rating and I would say that the way the team is playing should could for over half of that rating.

Read my lips

We will finish with a better record than the Marlins.

I hope your right.

With Hudson coming back and maybe some of our bats turning around (Frenchy and KJ I’m looking at you two) and getting healthy (Chipper) we can take the division. I am always looking for the silver lining.

Unfotunately

That speaks more to my lack of faith in the Fish.

Meh. A 6, but just so. our ML team is thoroughly mediocre, and I weight my vote to that. Several of our higher prospects have had down years or have been traded (Rohrbough, Hicks, Schafer, Locke, Gorkys, Morton). I’ll give the FO an above average until the trading deadline and make a more informed decision then to see how they’ll improve the ball club as a whole. Hopefully they’ll pick up that piece that reduces the amount of auto outs we have in our lineup (or make good decisions if we’re out of it by that time).

Thank you

see, while I disagree with the rating, you explained yourself and have a method behind the madness.

The two people who voted “1” are just being fair-weather fans.

I love how this confidence poll sways with each winning or losing streak. Does the MLB club have to go 162-0 to get a 10?

I’ll not go above a 6 until we start playing above .500 ball. I’ve been consistent in that mindset. No single series (win or lose) will sway my vote drastically.

Some could be considered a Delusional Dennis to think we deserve anything above a middle of the road rating until they prove they are an above the middle of the road team.

I give it a 4 again. Cox continues to make lineups seemingly by throwing darts, throws away outs by having his best hitters bunt, and badly handles his bullpen. Wren continues to let nonperforming players like Francoeur and Hernandez take up spots on the major league roster when better options are available at Gwinnett. Another move for a bat is clearly needed to keep this team in contention and get it over the top, but it appears management is going to wait until the very last minute to decide whether to make a deal.

by redwards95 on Jul 10, 2009 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

Or perhaps...

other teams are waiting until the last minute do decide who they will agree to deal with. Wren can’t just make a deal happen. It takes two sides to agree on a deal. From everything we have been reading in the news over the past couple of weeks, the Braves are actively trying to make a deal. They aren’t waiting, like you claim.

But go on. Continue unfounded hate on Wren.

I don’t hate Wren. In fact overall I think he’s done a great job. But I don’t think this team will still be contenders if he waits 3 more weeks to find another bat. There are teams like Washington and Baltimore that are clearly sellers and would make a deal with Wren if he wanted to and was willing to pay the price.
