Game 57 Recap: Pirates 3, Braves 4
I just sort of felt all night like we would come back and win this one -- "only down by two runs, we can overcome that deficit." It's amazing the kind of confidence a lineup that includes Nate McLouth and does not include Jeff Francoeur can give you.
Derek Lowe pitched well, but not great, but good enough. It was another quality start for Lowe and his seventh win of the season to continue to lead the team. He looked a little fatigued on the mound at times; perhaps this Southern heat and humidity are getting to him.
The key hit for the night came from Yunel Escobar, who laced a two-run single to left field with the bases loaded to give the Braves and Derek Lowe the lead in the seventh. The Braves power was not present like it was last night, as every hit tonight was a single.
The bullpen came on for the final two innings with Mike Gonzalez pitching the eighth and Rafael Soriano pitching around a Chipper Jones error in the ninth. Gonzo's inning was helped by a great play by Yunel Escobar. After a ground ball ricocheted off of Chipper's glove, Yunel picked it up and gunned the ball to first to get the out. Replays showed the runner safe, but the Braves got the benefit of the bad call.
The Braves are now 12-and-8 in one-run games after only winning 11 one-run games all of last year. This game was also another comeback in the late innings.

Great Win
And like you said, with this new lineup and nights when Frenchy is not in, you feel as a fan that you’re team still has a decent chance at coming back.
btw, is it just me or is Soriano proving how dominant he can be when healthy and that ’07 was no fluke. I am preying every night that Wren will resign him before he hits free agency.
Garrett Anderson ...
I don’t know about the whole Frenchy comment. I feel a heck of a lot better with him in a key spot than with say .. Anderson? Jeff hasn’t been to bad as of late in key situations while it seems Anderson is the new “rally killer extraordinaire” with his slow bat and deteriorating speed. Either way, nice win tonight. I felt good about our chances to come back as well .. and with Nate in the lineup .. it just seems like our hitters have been reborn (minus those first two games of his ATL career .. heh) .. anyhow .. just trying out TC. I’ll have to drop by a gamethread or two and get a feel for the place this week!
Go Bravos!
Anderson swings at alot of bad stuff
If he could cut that out, and have an actual strikezone, he COULD be alot better. I guess Pendleton is telling him to keep doing what he’s doing.
Everybody else vents on Frency enough. lol
~ Go Bravos!!!!!!!! Let’s win the fucking series against these clowns tomorrow. I really respected what Nate said about the Braves to the media, and I’ve always known the kid has sick stuff anyway. GOOOOD to have him around.

Anderson is almost 40
And hasn’t shown plate discipline his whole career… I wouldn’t hold your breath on him improving any time soon.
That pitch he swung at on a 2-0 count with runners at 1st/2nd and nobody out was infuriating.

Yes it was.
If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).
Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.

Just FYI
Francoeur is the target for a LOT of criticism here. Some more hostile than others, but most people would rather see the Braves without Francoeur in the lineup.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Escobar's arm is flippin' awesome!
Even though whats-his-name beat it, that was one hell of a throw by Escobar in the 8th.

that was an awesome play

While watching the game last night, I found myself thinking about this trade that just went down, and really gave alot of credit to the Pirates FO. Not only do they make a big move like that early, get rid of their best player, which has the team lighting candles in his memory and such, but they do it a few days before they play the Braves. That takes some balls, and its prob pissing off Pirate fans to no end.
Great game, and another one where we really hung in there. I like the way this team is shaking up, and actually becoming a “team”. The comment McCann made about having the most fun hes ever had is a great sign, and it has been showing lately. Hopefully it can translate into more wins, and we can make a run at this division
