Hopefully they’ll light a candle for Zack Duke after we shell him

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:15 PM EDT reply actions

Duke is actually pitching quite well this year. He doesn’t strike out a ton of guys, but he’s got nice command and finally has the defensive support that he needs.

by Yakker on Jun 8, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

i see his numbers, im just wary of proclaiming a pirates pitcher “good”

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Did you not watch what happened in April?

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"

already forgotten!

as i hope the rest of our team has as well

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

Notice I didn’t say “good” either…although the way the Braves offense has been scuffling recently, they can make almost anybody look good.

by Yakker on Jun 8, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

1. McLouth
2. Escobar
3. Chipper
4. McCann
5. Anderson
6. Francoeur
7. Prado, 1B
8. Johnson
9. Kawakami

Hmm kj 8th?

AB: Jeff Francoeur
Pitching: Any pitcher in MLB
Runners: Escobar at 3rd, Chipper at 2nd, McCann at 1st.

Pitch 1: In play, out(s)

by mvhsbball on Jun 8, 2009 6:15 PM EDT reply actions

Switch KJ and FYF, and short of dropping FYF completely, thats the best lineup we’ll have.

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Pull a TLR and bat KK 8th?

by Yakker on Jun 8, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Well seeing as how KK probably could do better than FYF, that could work. But he wouldnt get any pitches to hitting batting in front of FYF

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

7. Atlanta Braves

Alex White, RHP, North Carolina: They’d really like Zack Wheeler, but he’s not getting this far, and the asking prices on Matt Purke and Shelby Miller — more than double slot for this pick — will run them off.

24 hours. Praying Matzek falls.

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"
President, CEO, and chairman of the Brandon Jones fan club. PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!

by bigjoe on Jun 8, 2009 6:18 PM EDT reply actions

Gross. I dont like White. Where’s Matzek projected?

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Before our pick, as is Wheeler. Crow is dropping like a rock. If a team ahead of us grabs him, one of the two COULD fall to us. Otherwise, its a bunch of college arms…meh.

President, CEO, and chairman of the Brandon Jones fan club. PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!

by bigjoe on Jun 8, 2009 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Callis (BA) has us with either Minor, White, or Miller as a fallback. THis is from Bradley’s little draft piece.

Damn, I want Wheeler.

by ATLforlife on Jun 8, 2009 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Honestly, I don’t want a pitcher. But theres no position player after Ackley I’d like to see at 7. So yeah…pitcher. No need for a college arm. Matzek is the best prep arm in the draft…and dammit, the praise getting heaped upon him makes me tingle

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"
President, CEO, and chairman of the Brandon Jones fan club. PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!

by bigjoe on Jun 8, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Yup

And I don’t want Tate either. I don’t think the Braves are interested in him either, but if someone (like the Pads) take him we could get our man.

by ATLforlife on Jun 8, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Its really looking like San Diego is gonna take Tate…thank god. He’s gonna probably demand above slot too, so thats another reason we’d be down on him

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"
President, CEO, and chairman of the Brandon Jones fan club. PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!

by bigjoe on Jun 8, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Could definitely happen. I can see Pitt cheaping out. Although they do like their high-priced high school arms…

by Yakker on Jun 8, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt they take Matzek…the two most comprehensive mocks I’ve seen have them taking Crow or Tony Sanchez.

And i have no idea what you’re talking about with the high school arms. They hate high school arms. Moskos, Lincoln, Maholm, Bullington, JVB…all college.

"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"
President, CEO, and chairman of the Brandon Jones fan club. PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK! PLEASE COME BACK!

by bigjoe on Jun 8, 2009 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

My bad

Wow, did Pitt really miss that badly on college arms?? I just assumed since they were all busts that they were HS kids, since they’re harder to project. Wow.

by Yakker on Jun 8, 2009 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Maholm is solid enough, and they fucked up with JVB by making him a pitcher instead of a hitter. Bullington was seriously a horrible, indefensible pick, especially in THAT draft.

Hey everyone, lets all get our heads out of our asses. The Pirates have one less win than us and a better run differential. They’ve also allowed ONE MORE RUN THAN THE BRAVES ON THE SEASON. This isn’t some dogshit .350 team.

which means he’ll be trade bait in 2 years

by Zeus12888 on Jun 8, 2009 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions

haha

yup. for sure.

It’s sad. My dad’s a lifelong Bucs fan, back from the Clemente days, and he’s just so downtrodden all the time. Didn’t get riled up over the McLouth deal, didn’t get excited for McCutchen. It’s like they’re so bad they’re sucking the fanhood right out of him. It’s not even hating on the team like we sometimes do the Braves, at least that’s passion, with him it’s just come to indifference.

by nickfeely8 on Jun 8, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

lol

definitely see the Bucs/Bills irony there.

by nickfeely8 on Jun 8, 2009 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I do too… I’m lifelong Bills fan and saw “downtrodden” and then the bills icon and thought those went hand in hand.

by Cammando2317 on Jun 8, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Has no one considered that the Pirates probably didn’t shop McLouth, and got an offer that they thought was awesome, so they took it?

the point im making is that you guys seem to expect some oustanding stuff from him. he already fixed his stance and whatever else was bothering him through his slump and he is doing better as of late.

i mean yea it would be nice for him to get multi hit games like chipper but he isnt on that level. McCann might be the only person who could come close to chippers production.

by drumzalicious on Jun 8, 2009 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

No, he’s not doing better. Go to B-R, look at his splits for 2009, and look at the last week, 2 weeks, and month data. That is NOT “better”

im jus saying the dude has been hitting better the last week. im not going to argue he could take pitches more but at least he has been getting some hits and reverting back to how he played at the beginning of the season where he hit alot of balls to the opposite field.

In my opinion i think you guys could go a little easier on him.

Pam = Mrs. Lowe – just bc she is hot

Roy = Glavine – the bad boy that some people like still…

Dwight – Smoltz – always running his mouth even when nobody cares

Toby – KJ – the guy that some people just don’t like for no reason, but he is really one of the better members of the cast.

and the more I see A-Mac, I’m thinking maybe it was a smart deal by the Bucs.

McCutchen’s clearly ready to play now in the majors, McLouth was blocking him, and Nate’s trade value won’t really be higher than it is now.

I mean, it obviously depends what Locke, Morton, and Gorkys pan out to be but why leave Andrew stuck in AAA when he’s ready to go?

The base paths belonged to me, the runner. The rules gave me the right. I always went into a bag full speed, feet first. I had sharp spikes on my shoes. If the baseman stood where he had no business to be and got hurt, that was his fault. -Ty Cobb

Not sliding was actually the right move. Sliding slows you down and since it was a force play, it would have been the equivalent of sliding into first base.
