Which young pitcher would you rather have?
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/06/discussion-which-young-pitcher-would-you-take.html
I would take Strasburg. I know he hasn't been tested yet in the majors, but he is being touted as the best pitching prospect ever. He is a strikeout machine, and he throws a 103 mph fastball. And if you were wondering, money isn't a factor in this poll. Just assume they being paid an equal amount. Try not to be biased and give an honest answer.

My order looks like this:
1. Strasburg
2. Hanson
3. Price
My two favorite football teams are the Bears and whoever's playing the Packers.
Interesting
Personally answering this question from a long term perspective just isn’t fair, too many factors involved with too high of injury risk with pitchers. Short term however I think I might have to take Price. Love me some Hanson but I think it will take him a good year, if not two, to start getting the ball out of ML hitters eyes. Price is ready to roll and has shown several flashes of brilliance, but he too can have shaky command. Still I think he will have the most success of the three over the next few years.
As for Strasburg, I’m one of the bunch that says stay away. There has been more than a hint of suggestion that Boras is looking to set a “new standard” for signing bonus’ with this guy, then add in the very valid questions regarding his pitching mechanics and you’ve got a formula that screams Ben McDonald. No thanks.
Having said all that, I vote we stick with our man Hanson considering he is an Atlanta Brave and barring a complete schizophrenic melt down in our front office that’s not going to change any time soon!

Hanson is my guy, being a Braves fan I’m bias but it’s legit.Look at his numbers the guy can pitch,he had a bad day today,he left a few pitches up in the zone but he will get it together. He seems to know when he makes mistakes and he knows what to do to correct them.He didn’t have back to back bad games this year and his next start he will be better.I hope Cox told him that his spot is his and he doesn’t have to worry about losing it,that I think will take away some of the pressure and it should allow him to relax. His first start is over ,now he can settle down and do what we expect him to do and that is be a very good pitcher for us.
Price
Has the ability to be one of the best lefties in the game and is a K-machine.
But where’s Timmy Lincecum?
hes already been around a few years
just like King Felix in Seattle and Joba in NY.

Nor should Hernandez.

Hernandez is actually good though. And he looks like he’s on his way to his best season yet.
IMHO, King Felix has a shot at being a 300 game winner if he gets with a winning franchise. He’ll have 50+ wins before his Age 24 season, and he has great mechanics to go with being a pitcher that’s both a good strikeout pitcher, as well as having a great groundball rate.
Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.
We'll see...
I just think he’s always been more about hype than substance.

Felix
Felix is only four months older than Tommy Hanson and already has 750 major league innings under his belt, with a career 3.64 FIP. He stirkes out over 8 batters per 9, and has a career GB rate of close to 60%.
If anything, Felix is underrated.
is the pitcher for any team or the Braves?
If its for any team, Strasburg or Hanson tie. But if its for the Braves its David Price by a mile since we have no lefty starters.

I think if you’d rank them by ceiling Hanson would be higher than Price. While I do think Price will strike out more Tommy looks like he’ll be a dominating pitcher. Halladay-esque. Strasburg could be as dominating as Koufax or Gooden. If you throw that hard, have great command, and a curve ball you’re going to destroy line ups. So my order would have to be
Strasburg
Hanson
Price
Tommy did remind me of Halladay at times today

Eh...
If I’m being biased I take Tommy but since I’m not I’ll take David Price any day of the week. Strasburg could be Nolan Ryan or he could be Brien Taylor. I wouldn’t bet the farm on somebody who’s been striking out SoCal frat boys all summer who’s never faced a professional hitter. He very well could prove me wrong but at least Price and Hanson have a track record to some degree. But until Price or Strasburg gets a glorious mullet, I’ll take Mr. Hanson. In 15 years he shall look like Kenny Powers.

I'm biased for Hanson
Clearly. However, Strasburg hasn’t pitched in the majors yet….
Price hasn’t shown a third pitch. He can be a good ML starter without that third pitch, but it’s still a mark against him when you’re comparing him to Strasburg and Hanson. Strasburg by all accounts can be pitching in the major leagues right now and his stuff is better than Hanson’s (80 fastball, 60 breaking ball, plus command). I’ll go with him.
True
But Tommy Glavine only really had 2 pitches, and Price’s stuff is far more dominant. Dominant stuff from the left will win lots of games.
Strasburg “could” be in the majors right now. I don’t really doubt that. But he, like all other pitching prospects, could do nothing. I wouldn’t rate him higher until he throws a major league pitch….

1. Hanson…now that i saw him yeseterday…if i hadnt then price her
2. price
3. strasburg
Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you like except in the umpire's eye or on the ball.
James Patrick Murray
After thinking about it
I would rather take Hanson because so many first overall picks are busts. Not to say Price or Strasburg will be, though.
My two favorite football teams are the Bears and whoever's playing the Packers.
Without trying to be a d-bag but why is everyone talking about “Strasburg hasn’t pitched in the majors yet”? Most of you haven’t seen him pitch at all.
Also, I understand that Tommy and Price are good. Strasburg has tools you do not see everyday or year, maybe once a generation. That has to count for something.
Todd Van Poppel had great tools.

I’ve seen all three of them. And the night I saw Strasburg, he was freaking amazing. But, it’s true, he’s typically faced less than stellar college competition, and aside from his time with Team USA, he hasn’t faced any pro hitters. Now yes, his time with USA was insanely impressive, the night I saw him he made a bunch of AAA Canadians look foolish, but he still doesn’t have the track record the other two have.

The this conversation is irrelevant. Price wins by default since he has (getting my Steve Phillips voice ready) “done it on the big stage, dominating Red Sox hitters in a clutch, pressure situation”
Price walks too many, Hanson is going to get taking deep quite a bit if the first start is any indication, and Strasburg won’t be able to get good hitters out. Everyone has their flaws but Strasburg has top notch command to go with a great fastball, a good curve with hella drop and people say his change up is good too but he doesn’t use it.
something tells me we’ll be seeing all three of these guys in the bigs for a long time. hard to compare guys with so much talent.
