Barbaro Canizares

yeah, not a very sexy topic here, especially on Tommy Hanson day. But I was wondering what the deal is with this guy? any chance he gets called up for Kotchman? Dude has some good numbers. I think I read something about him being shitty in the field. I still haven't gone up to a Gwinnett game so I don't know much about him. Just that the guy has some power and can take a walk.

The Braves hate his defense.

And Bobby hates bad defenders.

Oh, Bobby.

All you would have to do is swing at the first two pitches you see every at bat, no matter where they are located.

very true. ohh and i gotta have a real good quote to tell a reporter too. maybe something along the lines of

“if i already fuck up my AB and hit into a potential double play, why should i hustle down the line?”

sound good?

Brandon Jones could easily replace his production…plus we need more LH hitters to balance the lineup

I like how this thread instantly turned into a Francoeur-bashing discussion. Would he still be here without that game-tying HR? His demotion/release would boost my confidence.

If Dunn walks 30 fewer times, he'll drive in 15 more runs. This is thanks to the scientifically proven formula: RBI = (this is nonsense) (I made it all up).

Here's a stat: Wins as manager: Dusty Baker, 1,162; Bill James, 0.

most of the threads on TC turn into a FYF bashing party anymore

As well they should.

It’s really the only logical thing to do.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

Kind of hard to discuss any topic without people trying to get their little quips in.

Now back to the real topic. I would love to see Canizares brought in. He’s been raking so maybe he gives our anemic offense a spark. Our other infieders are all above average in accuracy so as long as he can hold his glove still long enough for them to throw it in there I’d love to see the kid take a ew swings.

are you talking bout the corpse out in right field?

by rocket8188 on Jun 9, 2009 8:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Could it actually get any worse if we were to give a prospect a chance ? I seriously doubt it .

by princecharming on Jun 11, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Where would we play Canizares? The guy can barely play 1B and the guy who normally plays there has been pretty solid this season. Barbaro should be in the AL as a DH most likely.

i think this was in rerference to the fact that Kotchman was placed on the DL… so we need a 1B…that could possibly be Barbaro (despite his porous defense). Also, he could play DH until the interleague play is over (although I havent looked at the schedule).

Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

thats a good point about the interleague stuff. I’d love to see the guy swinging the bat in the Show. Maybe Prado’s injury will give him a chance now.

by yondaime4 on Jun 9, 2009 2:44 AM EDT up reply actions

does that make any sense about defense. Guys that can’t play 1st don’t get better at defense.

by rocket8188 on Jun 9, 2009 8:06 AM EDT up reply actions

As a very limited role player his lack of defensive ability would be minimized… I mean how much did Norton’s defense hurt us last year? Not much because he was never in the field… It would be roughly the same scenario.

I guess that’s what we do now develop pinch hitters that are so limited that they are only useful in pinch hitting for the nine spot.

by rocket8188 on Jun 10, 2009 6:09 AM EDT up reply actions

Also...

Martin looked a little hurt tonight, might need to sit out a couple games, didn’t look good running. Might be time to see what Barbaro can do against ML pitchers.

by BravesRaleigh on Jun 9, 2009 1:22 AM EDT reply actions

yeah that’s what I was saying. Since Prado is a bench guy, I thought it wouldn’t make sense for him to fill in for Kotchman during his DL stint. So, who else would play first? Personally I’d like to see Barbaro given his chance instead of old man Norton at first. Shit, why even have a guy on the minor league roster if he has no chance of getting a call-up (or if Bobby doesn’t like him)? But I guess that’s why AAA can be a strange twilight zone.
