Where should McLouth hit?
I have been asking this question since the day we acquired him. McLouth is a 20-20 player with both power and speed, which we really need both of. The good thing about this guy is that he can hit pretty much anywhere in the lineup. We need a leadoff hitter, but we also need a power hitting 3-4-5 thype player, and he is both of those. Where do you think he is best suited?

I gotta say lead. From what I saw of Nate last year, his numbers were much better in the leadoff spot (though i cant summon figures to back that up). He seems to me to be in the mold of a Soriano/Sizemore type player, with a bit less pop. A good leadoff man will really drive an offense, and god knows we need the kick right now.
Nate worked well as the leadoff man today, let’s keep him there!
Making the case for clean-up
I’ll make the case for hitting him clean-up. He’s clearly got the most pop on the team right now, which not only fits the #4 slot well (or at least as well as we have on the team), but having his bat behind Chipper makes Chipper that much more dangerous. Remember how Chipper’s numbers nose-dived after the Tex trade? He might not be Tex, but having McLouth as a threat I think will help Chipper see some better pitches.
Then, when Nate gets on base and drives in the 1-3 hitters, he can act sort of as a leadoff-type hitter for the 5-8 guys, using his speed to create a little havoc on the basepath.
Course, I like him at leadoff too.
Pitchers are more afraid of McCann than McLouth.

Lesdoff.
KJ gets better deeper in the order, 5 spot should be good. Yunel is great in the #2 spot.
I voted for second
because then we can take advantage of both his power and speed.
My two favorite football teams are the Bears and whoever's playing the Packers.
nah man Kotchman is the best #2 hitter we have

Leadoff
I say leadoff for now. Kelly has killed us all year leading off, he just isn’t a leadoff hitter. Escobar isn’t as well, can’t steal, swings at too many first pitches. I will agree that McLouth would be better suited to hit 2, but helps our lineup more right now hitting leadoff. If he gets on, he can steal, hit and run with Escobar, stuff we can’t do if Kelley gets on.
I personally would prefer to have Yunel bat leadoff only because of his extreme groundball tendencies… I dont think McLouth will steal enough to take him out of double play situations at a rate that would mitigate Yunie’s groundball rate. Yunel is on base a good amount and thats really all you want out of a leadoff guy… McLouth will then get protection in the 2 hole from CHipper…
Of Course we still have McCann batting 4th which isnt ideal. And while I agree Kotch is a great 2 hitter, he is just as effective in the 5 hole (IMHO).
Our lineup still isnt ideal but its drastically improved and I think it will score a lot more runs
Heyward,Hanson, and Shaffer r ready now!! Why do you think they havent signed the "right handed bat"?

no but we generally agree on this sort of thing… we only disagree about hte greatness that is Adam Dunn and the proper curve on a hat (or if it is ever appropriate to not have a curve).

There were two kids at the 1st-base side Dippin' Dots stand on Sat...
Not only did they have flat brims, but the idiots left the stickers on. The stickers on TOP! GAAAH! Tards.

ok the stickers thing… I cannot back up…
However I maintain that certain hats look better with a gently curved bill. the flat brim is unconscientable… but gently curved is ok.

I did the lineup analysis for two lineups
Everything is the same int he two excpet the leadoff and two hole.. I assume 3-9 is set. We are debating whether McLouth or Yunel should be leadoff (I think).

Hah...
So there’s a negligible statistical difference. Thanks for all YOUR help. :P

well theres very little difference but the one thing is that that mechanism doesnt take into account the fact that Yunie hits a groundball over 50% of the time. and thats my main reason for switiching the two…
and even if the difference is negligible… why would u take the one with the lower runs production?

McLouth
I just like McLouth hitting 1st. We really don’t know how many bases he can steal. He has been thrown out be the catcher once. In Pitt he didn’t have tons of chances to run because when your losing you do take those extra chances. Put him on a team that is competing, who knows. If you have a guy on base that can steal bases you force the pitcher into throwing more fastballs, and I like our chances of scoring more with Escobar, Chipper and McCann seeing and extra dose of fastballs. I realize that Escobar hit that ball on the ground a lot, but in a tie game, McLouth on first, i would like to see hit and runs, steals and even bunts with escobar up to bat. Giving Chipper and McCann chances to drive him in while he is in scoring position
