Kotchman strained his right calf and bruised his right shin when he was hit by a pitch from Arizona's Max Scherzer on May 31. He is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 16 at Cincinnati.

It’d be nice to see them move down Blanco and call up Barbaro Canizares, first cause Canizares deserves it, but also because if Prado is playing first, the only backup infielder is Diory Hernandez. Especially if Greg Norton is never going to play the field again.

Why is Greg Norton even on the team? A 36 year old who cant play the field should not be on a National League roster. If Canizares came up we would have a 1B instead of having to use Prado out of position. If Jones or Barton were called up, they could compete with Failcour for playing time in LF. If we were an AL club i could see keeping him around, but he has no position, and isn’t batting enough to justify him hitting. We have Anderson/Diaz (whomever isn’t in right) Ross, Prado, and Blanco on the bench. They are all producing for the club, while Norton sits on the bench and pinch hits once a game.

I don’t think it’s that they don’t want him to play the field, but it’s more that they want his bat as a pinch hitter. Unfortunately, he hasn’t really had a lot of luck at it this year, but it is just about the toughest job in baseball. And I think the main reason Prado is playing 1B is that they want him to get more ABs, but they can’t really find a place for him.

I’d like to see Barbaro get some starts at 1B as well

A couple of things....

1) Norton has been struggling but he never gets ABs so I am sure it is hard for him to get into a groove. They should let him play some RF and sit Frenchy. I realize that he is aweful defensively but we are so desperate for offense that I would advocate trying it.

2) I said this before and got called …I think it was insane…but send Frenchy down now..get it over with. It is going to be a big show and a big mess but it has to be done…
In his absence platoon Barton and Blanco and see if they can hit enough to form a passable lead off tandem. That allows Nate to bat 3rd and chipper fourth. This would stretch out our line up and enable us to bat GA 8th….
