Game 53 Recap: Brewers 4, Braves 0

More helpless offense, even with the revamped offense. But I can't blame them, Yovani Gallardo was dealing last night. He was getting two-strike swings in one-strike counts. He was making everyone look like a flailing Jeff Francoeur imitation. (Francoeur, by the way, was 0-for-3 with 2 strikeouts.)

The defense didn't help Jair Jurrjens, who was cruising until some rough spots in the 4th and 5th innings. Nate NcLouth took an 0-fer, but again, all bets are off when you're facing a pitcher who had the stuff that Gallardo did last night. With the toughest Brewers pitcher out of the way, the Braves can get back to swinging the bats and making contact in the final two games of the series... we hope.

I took my grandparents to this game for their first ever trip to Turner Field. Thanks Braves for a piss poor performance. Luckliy the first ever trip to Turner Field excitement made up for a terrible showing. They got on BravesVision while i was in the bathroom, of course. They had a great time, i just wish they coulda seen a halfway decent game. Turner Field does have pretty good handicapped services if anyone’s interested, we didn’t have to walk 20 blocks! We did get stuck in the tunnel trying to leave after they closed off the Plaza for Friday night fireworks, but it was a great experience for them. Well, except for the actual game….

I’ll be back again tonight, sans grandparents cause the wife got tickets for doing 101. At least the odds have to increase for a win….right?

Call me crazy

But if the Braves score 9+ runs tonight, I’m not going to be the least bit pleased.

That’s what worries me. The Braves this season can’t get +2 or -2 around .500. Since they’re coming into Saturday’s game under .500, they’ll win tonight, but if it’s by a gigantic margin, I fear for the regularly scheduled program to occur. At best, they’ll win Tommy Hanson’s debut to pull up +1 on .500, but who knows what will happen after that.

I’m chalking up the Friday loss to another generally abysmal offensive showing, with McLouth suffering some newbie jitters, and the fact that Gallardo is actually a pretty good pitcher, which we all knew, going into it. But to get shutout again was disappointing. Hopefully the Braves can win a competitive game against the Suppan they’ve seen many times before.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Jesus Fucking Christ

I have never seen a team that puts up such a big fight for .500, and then goes into chill mode.

The Braves have either been on or off. No in-betweens, really. Jekyll and Hyde.

That guy was dealing last night though. But still, I thought we were better than that.

I think McLouth was trying too hard to do something big in hist game. Those weak grounders to his pull side are usually a sign that a guy is trying to hit one out of the park.

Like a left handed Andruw Jones.

I had seen a couple of other games....

…with Mr. Gallardo pitching, and I wasn’t expecting much from the Bravos. The guy really is good. Hopefully tonight is different, however.

Don’t count on it. The Braves have problems with soft tossers with high ERA’s. Until we move FYF this team is going to have trouble scoring runs. While McClouth is an upgrade, he isn’t a savior, and this guy has a .174 BA on the road, not to mention questionable defensive skills. Supposedly, that’s why the Pirates where willing to move him, because they were concerned about his defensive abilities,. Jordan Schafer would have caught that ball last night, McClouth took a horrible route on it.

so we lose 3-0 instead of 4?

He’s also got a .717 OPS on the road, which is better than anyone else we have out there.

I know it's "only spring training," but is it time to be concerned about McLouth?
