Buddy Carlyle diagnosed with type-1 diabetes
It’s been a life-changing few days for Braves pitcher Buddy Carlyle, who was diagnosed with type-1 diabetes and began taking insulin injections Friday.
After losing nearly 20 pounds in recent weeks, Carlyle went in for bloodwork Wednesday that revealed an extremely high sugar level.

I wasn’t really sure what to say about it. I mean, obviously, I want to show support for Buddy, but it’s not like he reads TC.

Ya man it really fuckin sucks and I feel bad for him, but I mean what can you say? He’s one of those guys who has toughed out the minors and has carved out a niche in professional baseball. Ya gotta root for him. The only good thing is that now that he has been diagnosed and can now start treatment. I wish him the best.

Recovery
I’d like to see him make a nice recovery and get back to pitching like he was in the spring. He may not have “electric stuff” but was a solid arm last year and this spring.
Plus, I’ve gotta root for a guy who took the “journeyman” route to the majors.
Oh, and my wife went to high school with him, so she’s rooting for him too.

I’m sorry to hear about this. Diabetes, especially this type, is serious stuff. I knew something was wrong — he just didn’t look like his old self in a lot of ways. He’s obviously never been the staff ace, but he was pretty reliable. I hope he and his doctors are able to get it under control, and he can come back and contribute.

Look at how much better Jay Cutler got after he figured out his diabetes

Uhh...
How much better? He’s still never led a winning team.

But that has nothing to do with his hideous defenses, does it?

A winner's a winner...
Manning never complained because his defenses were shitty.

And imagine that, when the defense got good, he started winning. I don’t jerk off with football stats like I do baseball ones, but the Colts were a pretty shitty team for a few years post-Peyton

Eh...
He took them to an AFC Championship game in ‘03 and a Super Bowl victory in ’06 with defenses that ranked 20th and 23rd, respectively. Winners win. Whiners get traded when they’re the “only building block” their team has.

It reminds me of a billboard I saw in Salt Lake City:
“Nobody Ever Says Its Just Diabetes, Shake Out Of It”
Shake if off Buddy.

They said he lost 22 lbs and had no energy at all. He is now taking 5 insulin shots a day and getting stronger. Explains a lot. He’ll be back. Anyone willing to pitch in the Korean leagues to stay in baseball is tough.
