Edgar Osuna has a big night!
Edgar Osuna got promoted from Myrtle Beach to Mississippi and in his debut last night pitched a scoreless seven innings while giving up only one hit. I have been kind of overlooking Osuna this year and I'm glad he did something special to make me give him another look. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound southpaw went 3-4 with a 3.19 ERA in 10 starts for the Pelicans prior to his promotion. Osuna said after the game that he thought it was probably the first time he had ever thrown over 100 pitches in a professional game. (101 pitches). Here's a stat that really surprised me - Osuna has given up one earned run or fewer in 7 of his 11 starts this year. The kid won't be 22 until sometime in November and I have high hopes that maybe he'll be our next quality lefty starter sometime in the next couple of years.

I hope you're right...
But his dropoff in strikeouts (6 K/9 in MB) is a bit concerning. It could go ok since he’s got great command, but leaves little room for error as he keeps advancing.

Thats what I thought when I just did a quick scan on him. He’s still very young though, so we can’t totally fault him for that.

I like having a face to match up with prospects. For example, i finally saw Julio Teerahan a few weeks ago..
"Jason Heyward might be the best offensive prospect i've seen in fifteen years. His game is solid. I would trade any of the current players we have on our 25 man roster for Heyward. He's that good." - NL Scout.

Anyone got a scouting report?
I seem to have a vague recollection of reading that he had a really good change-up but a fastball in the low-to-mid 80’s.
like Chuck James!
Oh wait, he isnt on our team anymore…

Scouting report
Baseball cube has him at:
Control: 98/100
K-Rating: 98/100
Efficiency: 97/100
So as far as the cube goes he is one helluva prospect………though his k’s per nine is down significantly this season.
anyone remember dimaster delgado? he’s joined the rome club after being in extended spring training. tonight, he struck out 8 in 4.1 innings; 0 ER, 1 hit.
sweet.
