White Sox DFA Wilson Betemit
Wilson Betemit was only hitting .200/.280/.310 this season, but that was a small sample size of just 50 plate appearances. If he clears waivers, I think we should try and sign him to fill in while Omar Infante is on the DL. He's a better option that Diory Hernandez. Betemit also has some power that might be useful off the bench.

As long as he can still handle SS defensively
The White Sox haven’t used them there this season, but if he can still play then I’m all for it. If not, then the team has to stick with Diory, especially with Yunel not completely healthy.
Just maybe this could be a cheap move in getting Betemit as the Utility type guy and when Infante comes back he than be used in RF to replace FYF to have a more productive RH bat in the line up.
I still think we need a RH Bat for this now Heavy LH lineup for not only this year but beyond with all of the LH bats coming up through the systems in the next few years (Heyward/Cjohnson/Freeman). Willingham/Kapler/Murton-Spilborgh are few names that could be had for cheap to add more balance.
Betemit could be risk but his defense on the decline it could be a bigger gamle but adds more versatility than having Norton which is a PH and can’t even do that.
Norton
Even if the Braves cound count on Norton to duplicate last year’s stellar production, which they cannot, his presence as a veteran LH pinch-hitter at the very end of the bench is still a luxury we cannot afford. We urgently need a RH batsman w/ power who can – at minimum – spot start and be effective in the field defensively. Ideally, it needs to be a corner OF. The other options are a first or third baseman.
Kapler's doing terribly...
But he played well last year and he’s historically been pretty successful as a PH.
Still, you can’t discount Norton’s historical success in that role.

I can discount Norton’s inability to play a single position well. Remember, we are using Prado at 1b as a backup.
We have plenty of “veteran” bats on the bench. Either Diaz or Anderson is on the bench. We have Prado, Infante (when he comes back) and Ross. I would prefer to see any of these guys up instead or Norton. Think about the fact if we had B Jones, or Barton on the roster they could competer with FYF for time in right.

I guess you're right.
I might be overrating his PH ability, which I view as a whole different beast than just being a hitter.

So, hows that Swisher deal working out now?
"If on-base percentage is so important, then why don't they put it up on the scoreboard?"

I mean...
he’s producing about how he should be expected to. He’s just way too expensive for us.

I think Bigjoe is talking about how it looks for the ChiSox. Could be wrong.
And there was a large portion of the baseball community that did not expect Swisher to perform to this level at all. They were wrong, but they still existed.

Good call gondeee, I’d be all for it. It’s rough trying to be a utility guy in the AL where they don’t play real baseball.

I’d be glad to see the Braves sign him for the utility role while Infante is out. I think he’d be a better option than Dee-or-E, although I do have concerns about him playing SS.
Yeah, I’m pretty much just rehashing what everybody else has said.

When I saw his name I thought the same thing gondee. Might not be a bad idea, the only thing is who’s spot does he take on the 40-man roster? So long as were not dropping someone that could be more beneficial then I’m all for it.
We already have Wilson Betemit
Granted, he’s white, and about 12 years older.. but I remember calling him the “WWB” last season when he debuted raking away.
But anyway, I support this notion. I don’t know the specifics on whether or not it is possible, but I loved Betemit when he was here, and wouldn’t mind seeing him back. I wonder he would be able to wrest #24 back from Schafoeur if he did?
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
To whom do you refer?

It's ok...
I’m relatively new, and I usually just suck it up instead of asking what you guys are talking about :P,

I thought Bobby didn’t like him which was part of why he was traded? Anyway bringing him back would be a good move. He can’t be any worse than Diory Hernandez and probably would be a lot better.
The Braves DESPERATELY needed middle relief at that point, and traded Betemit the same night he hit a game winner for the Braves to the Dodgers for Danys Baez and Willy Aybar. Not sure how Bobby would’ve not liked him, considering how much he produced, off the bench, no less, but Kelly Johnson.

It’s too long ago for me to remember specifics. I just have a vague recollection that at the time of the trade we fans were pretty unhappy about it and the thought was that Bobby not really liking Betemit was part of the reason for the move. But I’m fine if my memory is off and the Braves bring him back.
Wilson is still only 27 years old and could add some serious pop off the bench. His career numbers include .432 SLG w/ 65 2B, 4 3B and 42 HR in 1143 AB. His weight is listed at 230 so he may not be quick enough to play SS.
Yeah
I don’t really ever recall him playing much SS on the Braves, because Renteria was pretty durable still. He primarily played a ton of 3B when Chipper was out for the first WBC, and often played 2B in place of the faltering Marcus Giles. I was a huge fan of his, and was very disappointed when he was traded away.

I mean...
he does have over 500 games worth of professional experience at the position, so it’s not whether he knows how, it’s whether he can.

I am confused....
Assuming he can be had for a little cash, a bag of balls and a handshake…what is the downside? He could offensively be a plus …defensively he wouldn’t be great at SS..but would be passable elsewhere in the IF. If Escobar was out for more then a couple of games.. we would need to re-address. But with Infante out…are we any different now? Hernandez isn’t more then a short term plug for us now.
As for whether he could/should replace Norton…who cares. We are not to that point yet. Right now he replaces Hernanez. When Infante comes back…then you decide what to do with Betemit.
As for the trade…I realize he was something of a headcase at the time…but I would LOVE to have Aybar back these days! He is really what the Braves need. A swtich hitter…with some pop…who takes a walk…and can play a couple different positions. Ahh..but we got…what Ridgeway…right?
