Open Thread 6/30: Phillies at Braves
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves, Jun 30, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Derek Lowe is on the mound for the Braves tonight, as they open up a three-game set against the Phillies. The Braves are 4-and-2 against Philly this year, all games having been played in Philly. Strange that we are almost at the All-Star break and this is the first time we are seeing the Phillies in Atlanta.
Our un-excitable left fielder, Garret Anderson, celebrates his 37th birthday today. He's done well on previous birthdays, compiling a .313 (15-for-48) average, 7 runs, 4 doubles, 5 home runs, and 11 RBIs.
Derek Lowe needs to have a good start after three disastrous starts in a row. Today's game will be an interesting contrast as he faces the Phillies, who lead the NL in homeruns, while Lowe has the fifth-lowest HR allowed per 9 IP rate in the majors. Let's see if he can rediscover that opening day form, when he twirled 8 shutout innings against the World Champs, allowing just 2 hits.

basically, they said that the management want to stretch to be able to start if needed. They also mentioned it may be smart to do that, in case of an injury to the starting rotation. Its easier for a starter to go to the bullpen, than to train to be in the bullpen, and be a starter.

I’m definitely not trying to look cool for anybody here.
One of the big guns in the TC clique has definitely got me on his shit list right now.

if it’s a choice between him and Soriano, I’m taking Soriano.

No, one reliever an inning. That is the rule.

No.
You don’t pull a reliever after a single hit. A string of them, sure.

Thank goodness we have 2 more turns at the plate and this isn’t the 9th.

and thank goodness we have our offense to do it.

They just broke the 4 run barrier. We’re not allowed to score more than 3 in a single game.

It’s amazing how this team finds new ways to lose everyday. It’s almost like they’re trying to blow games.

Offense comes to life for a bit, pitching falters. Pitching is amazing, offense does nothing. It is odd.

yeah he was certainly trying to lose. shit up.

Question: So if we come back to win ....
Who gets the win?
Did Gonzo just insure Lowe misses out on a win no matter what?

Pretty much. Since he’s already out of the game, he’s no longer the pitcher of record. Gonzo is until we tie and a different pitcher pitches.

The Braves are 26th in the majors in homers. Yuck.

4 other NL teams. Don't remember who.
I do remember that the fewest in the AL is KC with 61. I think the Braves have 41 or 51. Saw it on MLBN earlier.

Giants, Pirates, and (surprise) the Mets.
Citi Field is NOT a hitter friendly park.

Tied for 26th with the Dodgers, which is somewhat surprising.

I think that was the 1st or second game of the season when we thought we were going to hit a million homers this year.

Maybe he already did. LOL
Wait, that’s gross – nevermind.
