Open Thread 6/27: Red Sox at Braves
Boston Red Sox at Atlanta Braves, Jun 27, 2009 4:10 PM EDT
Today's game will be an interesting contrast between two pitchers whose styles are complete opposites. On one side for the Red Sox is Tim Wakefield, who doesn't throw a pitch over 85mph, yet he's 9-and-3 on the year at age 42. On the other side for the Braves is the power pitcher Javier Vazquez, who is second in the league in strikeouts.
Power vs. off-speed trickery.

Such a shame i won’t be getting this game on FOX today. I get the Dodgers/DBacks game. Hey, maybe ill watch the Dodgers, take notes on how to build a winning team, and send it to Frank Wren!
Not to mention, the Thillies are already up 10-0 in the 5th. Heres hoping they get really hot right before they play us.
AB: Jeff Francoeur
Pitching: Any pitcher in MLB

Interesting tidbit from DOB.
Escobar is hurt, but is he hurt enough to be out again today? if given choice, he’d almost certainly be in there. But he wasn’t given choice.
Cox won’t talk about it, but I think benching him is an effort to send a signal that the immaturity is unacceptable, but in Cox’s way, avoiding throwing him under the bus by using the injury (which is real, but might not be real bad) as an excuse.
Again, Cox won’t talk about it.
But teammates and team officials are frustrated by his immaturity and wish he’d just play the game and cut out the little stuff that looks bad, particularly not being ready for the next couple of plays while pouting the other night after the E6.

i hate to say this but do you guys think he could be a cancer? i mean i know when he’s on he’s a good player along with a good hitter..but i don’t care how my bitchyness is about crappy play from francouer..atleast the guy stays positive and is a role model in character FOR THE MOST part. A crappy hitters one thing..but a cancers another. Even Ty Cobb was liked by his teammates..mostly because they weren’t the ones getting spiked when he slid, and he was too good to hate him, if he was on your team.
we need Omar back if he didnt get injured I bet we would be a .500 team

Anyone know the name of the Firefox addon that blocks in-site Flash ads? I had it on the old one, and these are getting irritating
I don’t know. I THINK it was Adblockplus, but I installed that 2 nights ago and didn’t notice much of a change…didn’t reinstall last night
NoScript pretty much blocks any flash/java type thing unless you allow it. So it would block the Flash ads for you.

anyone is affordable
except for anyone with the yanks and the sox.. it just depends on what you want to give up to get it.
and if the nationals
are asking too much in return, he is not affordable. His salary is not affordable, nor is it feasable to give up a bunch of top-level prospects for him.
Dunn will not be in Atlanta. You can write that down.

because management has no cahonas.
top level prospects? hansons good. keep him. but the farm boys are for trading! yes they are good at that level..and they all have promise..but so did FYF.
its a risk you have to take occasionally.
or else you’ll always be mediocre. i’m not saying go stupid like the yanks.. but jesus..what the hell did we get fuga for..he’s lazy, he’s old, and he’s outright embarrassing to watch groundout.. ontop of that he’s blocking some of your “top level prospects”
Just image GA in LF
but 100x times worse at fielding. And you have Adam Dunn.
yeah fuga has 18 hrs.
slugs 500 and has an ops of 900. sometimes you have to give up in areas to improve in other areas.
He's signed for 1 year
and none of the prospects are ready, so no, he isn’t blocking any of them. He is actually swinging a good bat as of late. His D is horrible though.

McLouth – solid
Yunel – solid
Chipper – solid
McCann – solid
FUGA – solid
Kotchman – solid
FYF – abysmal
KJ – abysmal right now
KJ’s numbers indicate he will turn it around. Chipper and Mac are slumping right now, but you know they will be back. Everyone else is solid. We do only need 1 bat – to replace FYF.

After all, that’s the reason we have FYF, Kotchman (filthy at first) and of course, FUGA……….. oh wait.

Wait, I just thought of something positive!
I didn’t waste 3 hours of my life watching the Braves once again FAIL.
Instead, I fixed a home cooked meal for my hubby only checking the TV intermittently.
Until they can field a team that seems to give a damn, I will find it hard to.

Is there a bigger tool in baseball than Papelbon?
I mean the guy is a great closer but he’s the douchebag frat boy from college who was always drunk and an asshole because he thought everyone else thought it was funny, but instead they just thought he was obnoxious. Don’t you just kind of get that feeling?
I do get that feeling about him all the time.

Ok, so, we suck. (minus the pitching, of course)

Well thats an improvement over last year how many straight 1 run losses we have last year? Our team had a MLB record of that.
I dont think no matter who we end up gettin is gonna make much difference. We got McLouth and he has been good for us but we still have black hoes in this lineup, and i dont see how we can get better offensively without givin up a Vazquez or somethin like that THEN even if we scored 2 runs today havin traded Vaz the person in Vaz place PROLLY gives up more than 2 runs today or at least has a chance at it. Seems like it might be hopeless for this team for the year, i just logically cannot come up with a solution and say YES this will improve us and help us have a great chance at the playoffs. We just have too many holes in our lineup.

logic fail
we acquired Nate without giving up Vaz. We don’t have to trade Vaz to get a bat. We don’t need a Beltran-ish bat, we need another McLouth-type bat and we will be fine.
