Open Thread 6/23: Yankees at Braves
New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves, Jun 23, 2009 7:10 PM EDT
Oh boy! The Yankees are in town. I'll be at the game tonight, and in a suite -- don't hate. (I love vendors that try to sell you things that you know you'll never buy.)
Let's hope Tommy Hanson continues to improve and has the best start of his young career. Remember, he's supposed to be a guy who can bear down give a little extra in big games.
The Braves batters should annihilate the Yankees starter. Anything less than 7 runs and I'll be disappointed.

Hopefully there is a good turn out of Braves fans in ATLANTA
I thought HOME FIELD was supposed to be an advantage.
Here’s the sad truth: Many of the Braves fans have “sold out” over the years to what they perceive to be better teams (I don’t have to list any…..you know ’em.)
Plus, the one underlying fact that many are afraid to address……..many of the sports fans in the ATL are more interested in the Hawks and Falcons (basketball and football), as opposed to the Braves (baseball). Again, a truth that many will either deny, or become enraged over.

Tough to draw consistenly to twice (or eight times, even) as many games.

Last night @ 11pm west coast time i check the Bravos site and the “best available” tickets for 2 people were 6 rows from the very top in LF.
Should be a crazy game.

Mr. fielders choice? It would seem to me that if a man is on first with Yunel up, he better steal if he wants to make it to second. However, if he’s on second with Yunel up, chances are good that he scores.

I have a bad feeling...
That we’re just the lineup Wang needs to return to form. We always seem to make bad and old pitchers look like Cy Young winners. So, I predict like 3 hits through 7 innings as per usual and everyone on Sportscenter talking about how good the Yankees will be with Wang back. And then Wang sucking balls when he goes against a good lineup next time out.
I have a good feeling. I think it's finally occurring (for real) to our guys that we can contend.

I hear that.
I think we have the pitching to win. We just have to hit. That’s all. Just find some power and some hitting with RISP and we could take the division. We’re so much better off then we were last year.
I'm scratching my head over Kelly.

From DOB
“Overwhelming is the only word I can use to describe the throngs of Yankee fans here tonight, folks. Many, many of them, about 10-deep at the railing all the way down the left-field line for batting practice”
Well shit. Time to give Wang the Dice-K treatment.

If Yankees fans wanna give our team money, then good for them. If they also want to come out to the ballpark and see a loss, then all the better. I am surprised that there are so many of them down in the Atlanta area. I thought they all lived in Florida. Red Sox fans are gonna be just as bad though. Lord knows they have more band wagon fans than any other team in baseball.
If we had fans turn out like in St Louis, Philly, Boston........we would be well over .500
I can’t prove it, but I know it’s true. It provides confidence to the players. Of course, all those northern cities are more densely populated and……………..like I mentioned in my first post in the thread.

The cubs are the 3rd most popular team in baseball
and they havent won a world series in 100 years. i dont buy the “extra fans means extra wins” thing. You can either hit a curveball or you cant. You can can either make a diving catch or you cant. I dont think having 1 fan in the crowd or 10,000 fans makes much of a difference.
But thats only my opinion.
