Since the day of [the Nate McLouth] trade, and the day the Braves ushered out Tommy Glavine for Tommy Hanson, the Braves have gone 6-10. They’ve given up only a 3.88 ERA but hit .255 and averaged 3.75 runs.
Carroll Rogers brings home the recent struggles of the Braves
That's pretty simple math, if you give up more runs than you score, you're not going to win more games than you lose.

This is what happens when half of your outfield plate appearances go to sub-replacement players.

Wait, you mean it’s not McLouth and Hanson’s fault?

I blame our SP…afterall, they are 1-7 over the past little stretch or so (at least, that was ESPNs reason for bumping them down in the all-important power rankings).

I think the key in those stats is not the EARNED Run Average
but the total runs allowed. We have played piss-poor defense and when your RISP is as bad as ours, that’s just too much for the SPs to overcome.
Hell, JJ’s start was just given away by his error and Chipper/Esky just letting that popup drop between them. We have not been playing smart enough baseball to overcome the lack of offensive production.

+1
we should hit the field about 3 hours early tonight and take some pop ups, grounders to the pitcher and teach GA and FYF some better routes. Our defense sucks

Oh, btw, who knew we had the best bullpen FIP in baseball? Pretty surprising.

Fielding Independent Pitching; it just uses GB rate, K rate, and BB rate to create an ERA scaled statistic. It removes the influence of defense with the standard sabermetric idea that pitchers don’t have control over what happens to balls in play.
