Atlanta Braves Fan Confidence Down to Pre-McLouth-Trade Levels
Before the Atlanta Braves pulled off the trade for Nate McLouth, the fan confidence in the team -- as measured by the weekly poll here at Talking Chop -- was at the lowest point of the season. The week after the trade, the confidence jumped up considerably, though still not as high as it was to start the season. But this week, for the second straight week, the confidence level has fallen to just about where it was before the McLouth trade, as the team has failed to capitalize on the added offense.
With the upcoming homestand being perhaps the toughest the team will have all season, the liklihood is that the confidence level will continue to drop (unless the team can miraculously pull off some wins against the mighty AL East).

I’ll feel good if we can not lose ground or make up some games in this homestand. Otherwise…I’m not sure how we will dig ourselves out of the hole.
"Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win!"
our entire division sux
Well the Phils and Mets are playing just as badly as the Braves so that’s how. At least we have a good rotation. If we could ever get our offense going, the division is there to be had.
offense sux
This offense isn’t working which is why we fans have lost confidence in the organization. McClouth needs to be hitting in the middle of the order where his power can drive in runs. Francoeur needs to go (I don’t care whether it’s to Gwinnett, Boston, Kansas City, or Mars). Kelly Johnson needs to snap out of his funk quickly or lose his job to Prado or Infante when he returns. Gregor Blanco needs to be released and Brandon Jones called up. Do all that and it would maybe buy a few more weeks for Wren to find another big outfield bat via trade.
Can the people who were complaining about McLouth please tone it down? Being disappointed with him 12 days into his tenure with the team is ridiculous, which was obviously pointed out during his production the last 4 dames.

Can the people who (are always) complainingabout McLouthplease tone it down?
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.
Seriously. McLouth has been just fine for us. His OPS is slightly lower than it was with Pittsburgh, but it’s right at his career average. This guy has only been a positive.

I haven’t seen any complaints about McLouth…are they in the game threads?

Basically people just bitching that Nate had a sub-.700 OPS during the first 12 games he was with us. Of course he goes 6-17 with 4 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 BB the four games after that, but they don’t say anything about that.

if it happens....
i would like to see a new fan confidence poll right after john francoeur gets released. guaranteed, it would become instantly higher.
seriously, francoeur has put up mondesi-esque numbers for a year and a half and has yet to be benched for any period of time. i guess there’s no since typing about it anymore so i will retract my words.

I’ve been voting 5 for the past several weeks, and even though 50% isn’t exactly a passing grade by most standards, I feel like it’s perfectly realistic to say we’re just as likely to do well as we are to fail on a nightly basis. We have all the tools in place, we just don’t execute about 50% of the time.

Since you mention grades
< 60% is what I what I grew up to know as an F
If at best, people are cranking it to 7s when they’re feeling optimistic, that’s still in the 70% range, which sure, is average, but still what I grew up knowing as C’s.
In short, my parents used to do the equivalent of all the repeated facepalming done here, whenever I brought home any C’s.

You should not pay too much attention to the actual number…it is too subjective to interpret. What is really informative is the change. For example, even if we won the World Series, I doubt we’d have a 10. So, the scale is not really equivalent to a academic grading scale. It more or less should only be used to gauge changes in confidence, which is what I think gondeee has done a good job of.
"Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win!"
I voted 5 and I think it’s about right, We’ve hovered around the 50 percent(.500) all year, we seem to do just as much wrong as we do right, and we take a step back for every step forward.
Sure, some of you may be tired of the complaining, but what are we supposed to do? We’re sneaking up on the halfway point of the season here. Blind devotion gives way to reality eventually. Will I stop supporting my Braves? Hell no, but I’m a paying customer and I have every right to bitch about the mediocre product that I’m paying for.
We can sit here and say that our division sucks, that it’s anyone’s to be had and, technically, it is. But I don’t want to hope that everyone sucks just enough so that we can pass them. I don’t want us to be the best of the average.
What are the solutions? I think we all have our ideas. One thing I do know, Bobby has an allegiance to fringe veteran players that borders on insane. Sometimes you just have to let the kids play.
Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a s#!t about the rules?!?
People can complain all they want, but the majority of it is completely over the top and hardly even justifiable.

I don’t feel that any of mine has been over the top. But I won’t bite my tongue in the face of stupidity, either.

Wasn’t talking about you specifically. Just making a point against this statement:
Sure, some of you may be tired of the complaining, but what are we supposed to do?
Complain all you want…there’s plenty to complain about. But when people are bemoaning how underwhelming McLouth has been, despite the fact that he had only been with the team for 12 fucking games…that doesn’t have a place here.

I have no qualms with McLouth. I like his game.

Again…wasn’t talking about you specifically.

I wasn’t in town and on the computer to vote this time, but if I were – it would have been a 5. Until this team shows me it can play above .500 consistently, that’s all they’re gonna get from me.
I bemoan the hard losses and stupid plays on the field as they happen – but overall I am desperately trying to keep a positive attitude and hoping they will get it together and shock all of us in how well they play in the dog days of summer.
They sure make it hard sometimes though.
