Just when you think it can't get any worse

Bisher says something even more stupid that before…

This doesn’t even deserve a response…

That old man actually gets paid for writing this crap?

It’s a sad, sad, sad, sad world, my friends.

No kidding. Im sure what I leave in the toilet bowl every morning is more intelligible than that.

I love the rational of why it is “unthinkable” to trade him.
Bisher basically says “i know many of you do not want to trade him, because he is such a good interview”

what an old kook

Seriously?

Yeah, im sure the Orioles were lookin to send off Cal Ripken Jr. a few years back too.
And i heard the Yankees were trying to trade Jeter to build up the farm.

Who would write this crap?

AB: Jeff Francoeur
Pitching: Any pitcher in MLB
Runners: Escobar at 3rd, Chipper at 2nd, McCann at 1st.

Pitch 1: In play, out(s)

by mvhsbball on Jun 20, 2009 2:43 PM EDT reply actions

Ah wow.

Well me personally I disagree with this. The Braves are a solid team going through some growing pains but all in all the team is VERY solid. Everyone just needs to step up and start doing their part and Chipper’s part out side of the offensive catalyst is a leader and those are things we need to not be trading.

HOWEVER

i can see the other side. If the Braves had been out of it at this point like 12 Games back i could see this argument coming up or maybe when he is older and his legs are ad to the oint that he cant play in the field anymore.

IF it was one of those situations i could see this being a discussion brought up although i dont think Chipper would bring in as big of a haul as most are thinking mainly because i dont see a team dealing a young dynamite offensive player for an aging one.

by drumzalicious on Jun 20, 2009 4:39 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe if, you know, we didn’t sign him to an extension before the season, this might have some traction

by bigjoe on Jun 20, 2009 5:14 PM EDT reply actions

Just throwing this out there:

Chipper is a 10/5 player so he has the power to veto any trade he wants.

AB: Jeff Francoeur
Pitching: Any pitcher in MLB

I am pretty sure the Braves do not give no-trade clauses. Have not for a while.

Sorry, posted before I was finished…

You are correct though, he is 10/5. Furman should have known both of these facts (no no-trades, and 10/5 rule). He is just so out-of-touch.

I could see how writing a column about trading Chipper might draw attention. But at least make a sound argument.

Irrelevant. It's an MLB rule.

Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.

I know, didn’t you read the rest of my comment…I was making the point that Bisher should know that he is 10/5 and that the Braves don’t give no-trade clauses.

"Here comes Bream! Here's the throw to the plate! He is...safe! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win! Braves win!...Braves win!"

What Bisher doesn’t acknowledge is that there’s literally NO ONE to replace Chipper. If Heyward or Freeman were a 3B, this would make sense. But his contract is manageable, he’s as good as he’s ever been, and this team team is set to get a lot better and younger over the next 2 years. His presence will be crucial to the development of those young players.

Theoretically, a replacement could be had as part of a trade...

And if we’re giving up, it won’t hurt us that bad to play Prado and/or Infante (or even Norton, for that matter) at 3B.

Remember, kids...don't ever let facts get in the way of your argument.

by MichaelProcton on Jun 21, 2009 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

Longterm, I say move McCann to third...

But that’s not what this was even addressing.

Bisher sucks, he needs to get Parkinson’s and give me his cushy job. He doesn’t know wtf he’s talking about.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

by timmy3 on Jun 21, 2009 2:32 AM EDT up reply actions

You know, I agree Bisher is a washed up has been whose thoughts and writings are usually worthless, but damn, damn, damn, I wish everybody would stop with the death and disease wishes.

e.g, Francoeur chases down a flyball and xxx999 posts, “too bad he didn’t just have a cardiac explosion with all that strenous effort”.

It is too much, too far in my view, unfunny and worse.

Getting sick of...

people comparing Chipper to Glavine and Smoltz, (the people comparing them were responding to the actual article, not on here), because let’s face it, Glavine and Smoltz left us for more money when we did offer them contracts the same year they left, and Chipper takes pay cuts in order to help the team, is there even the slightest comparison besides the fact they were all on the same team in the ’90s?

Thank you.

I thought it was a known fact that after Smoltz left, Chpper let the front office know he wanted to retire as a Brave, and at that time they offered him an extension so he could remain and retire a Brave! I don’t doubt that Chipper remains in the organization in some capacity.

by HEYJUDE on Jun 22, 2009 6:23 AM EDT reply actions

This isn't the first time I have heard this

But Bisher is insane, and his logic is flawed. He doesn’t realize that the Braves farm was ranked in the top 5 even after the Tex trade, for instance. He talks about how the Braves have not gotten anything out of the farm for years, but here it is Mr. Bisher:

McCann
Escobar
Hanson
KJ
Prado

Basically, half the Braves young core.

by Andy Braves Fan on Jun 22, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

Also

Chipper has 10-5 Rights. No doubt he would veto any trade.

by Andy Braves Fan on Jun 22, 2009 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

Anyone read his article on our farm system?

He used words like “empty” and “depleted” and made it sound as though we had nothing but straw bales in uniform all the way down the system. I’m basically at the point where I read a Bischer article whenever I want to be frustrated and irritated. He seemed to think the Tex deal cleaned us out entirely, forgetting the fact that we still have two of the games top ten prospects (Hanson/Heyward) and PLENTY more help coming lower on the farm. He may as well write an article on why the Pirates shouldn’t spend so much money on winning.

"...Braves tie! ...Braves tie! ...Braves tie!"

by The Keith Lockhart Era on Jun 23, 2009 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

Which article?

He has written two such articles in the past few months, or roughly, 2 of his last 4 articles on the Braves have been about our “depleted” farm system.

In case you were wondering, the other two were about how Diaz just keeps on hitting and about trading Chipper Jones.
