Open Thread 6/12: Braves at Orioles

Atlanta Braves at Baltimore Orioles, Jun 12, 2009 7:05 PM EDT

OMG, it's Tommy Hanson time again! Let's see if he can set the first 20 batters down in a row this time. Heck, I'm just looking for a solid outing that builds upon the positives of his last outing... oh, and a Braves win would be nice. He will be facing Jason Merkin Berken... I kid, I kid.

Hopefully Hanson and McLouth have gotten all the “baby Braves stuff” out of the way and are ready to turn it on.

I keep waiting for McLouth to break free. The guy is good. And Hanson………

McLouth will be huge for us… I’m sure you agree. He’s already shown flashes of what he is capable of. I spent plenty of years in Pittsburgh and he was fantastic for them, even outside the stat books. He’ll do alot for our franchise.

Swap 5 & 6 and I should be OK.

If Prado can play third, why can’t he play first? Pretty sure Barbaro is a worse defender than Larry…

This

Is about as good as the lineup can get. I like Prado in the 9 spot – maybe he can be on for Nate.

I seriously typed “Brian” before Berken AND Bergesen in my series preview over on BravesHeart several times when I was doing it last night, I’m a moron.

I put up like 5 new articles over there the past 2 days, including HOT OR NOT, who should we worry about (TWO PARTS), a series preview, and a series recap. Fun times, check it if you haven’t already

by Smoltz's Beard on Jun 12, 2009 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Still, everyone’s acting as if Soriano was getting hammered in his last outing, when in reality he gave up like one decently hit ball to McCutchen to lead off, and then an IBB with two soft grounders accounting for the runs.

by Bronn on Jun 12, 2009 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions

no, I know…don’t get me wrong. But a 5 run lead, you should bring in Bennett. Everyone fucking hates him cause Bobby always brings him in during the worst possible situation…I don’t understand his reasoning now

Someone tell me how badly Chipper is hurting if Prado is really the better option at third base.

by Bronn on Jun 12, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions

Chipper has almost always been the Braves DH at least in recent years…although I agree that Prado should be in DH

by Poohjure on Jun 12, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Well being old PLUS having bad feet will make you not to good of a defender. Im thinkin he DH’s today and tomorrow and plays 3B on Sunday with Mac DH’ing on Sunday

by drumzalicious on Jun 12, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

But Prado is hardly 100% and is moving with a noticeable limp. Just saying, our 3B options are pretty gimp right now.

And Chipper has always said he doesn’t enjoying DHing.

by Bronn on Jun 12, 2009 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

To bad DeRosa would cost so much.

by drumzalicious on Jun 12, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Which Mac? I dont foresee Brian DHing and Ross catching….Bobby wouldnt use his catchers like that…and McClouth would force our OF to have a larger then necessary whole in it.

by Poohjure on Jun 12, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions

He’s used McCann as a DH before like that.

by Bronn on Jun 12, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Good Job Soriano

He did good not to let the runs score but he still shouldnt have been in the game.

by drumzalicious on Jun 12, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

26 pitches that he didn’t have to throw

by MatM on Jun 12, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

Really fortunate to get out of that inning.
And pretty inexplicable to run Sorino out there after so much recent work and with a 5 run lead.

by fandave on Jun 12, 2009 10:10 PM EDT reply actions

Thats the exact reason I say he should be our Closer. This was the 2nd game that i have seen when he didnt have his best stuff the other game being against the Nationals and he still gets it done. Gonzo on the other hand not so good
