Atlanta Braves Minor League Recap: 6/11
Scranton WB 9, Gwinnett 4
- R. Gorecki 2-3 BB
- B. Jones 1-4 RBI
- D. Heath 3.1IP 3H 4R 5BB 3K
The same story as usual for Duente Heath as his walks caught up with him (he also had a wild pitch). Heath has always had pretty good stuff but he has always had issues harnessing it. I have said before that I thought it would catch up to him in AA though he pitched well there this year (still walking people). Maybe he will always be this Jekyll and Hyde type player who is unhittable one outing and kills himself the next.
Birmingham 4, Mississippi 1
- T. Jones 1-4 2B
- E. Campbell 1-3 2B, RBI, K, 2 E(10)
- S. Diamond 6IP 4H 4R 3BB 8K
Scott Diamond pitched well in this game despite those runs given up (only one was earned). He basically came apart when Campbell botched a double play ball in the 6th. He also picked off two baserunners in this game. For the season Diamond's peripherals are pretty solid with a high groundball rate and acceptable walk and strike out numbers. Oddly though his home/road splits are almost identical. Also of note is after being horrible for the first two months of the season Stephen Marek has 6 straight scoreless outings under his belt.
Kinston @ Myrtle Beach - Cancelled due to Rain
Rome 2, Savannah 3
- J. Santamaria 1-4 2B
- C. Culver 1-4 2B, K
- B. DeVall 6IP 7H 2R 1BB 5K
Another good start for one of the young Rome pitchers. Brett DeVall brought his ERA down to 2.11 for the season and has yet to allow a HR this season. I wonder how long they will keep him in Rome?

I agree ... Thanks!
BTW, I noted that our former big bopper Tyler Flowers is now w/ the Birmingham Barons and is having another very respectible year, following up on his good work last year at the Beach. Here’s his page.
Maybe some of ya'll know for sure, but I think Scott Diamond looks like a really nice guy. Plus, what a great baseball name.

You assumed a guy is nice because of a picture of him.

It’s actually a really good assumption in this case. Scott is a an incredibly nice guy; he’s very smart and he really loves baseball. The guy is just a pleasure to talk to, and if you go see Mississippi I’d recommend trying to find him and chat for a minute.

I didn’t think it was lame. When my buddies and I are getting autographs we’ll look at the guys’ baseball cards and try to guess whether they’re nice or not based on their pictures. Typically, you can tell by how they look.

that’s awesome. i’ve been wanting to get some new baseball cards for a while, and there’s nothing like getting one signed. the only one i have is john smoltz, but it is his rookie card, so i love it.

I think that would rank about last on my list of things I look for in evaluating a person's character.

Rohrbough’s injury situation makes him kind of the organizational Bigfoot. We’ve all heard of him, and we think he’s big, but it’s hard to find someone who’s actually SEEN him.
I saw him in MB last year...
But I can’t tell you anything significant about his start.

Pretty accurate. I saw him last year in the final of the CL championship series. He lost but he fought it pretty well. He obviously didn’t have his best stuff and was frustrated, but he hung in there and made good pitches; the Potomac guys were just locked in. I talked to him after and he was pretty upset, but I think he did all he could with the stuff he had that night.

I wonder how DeVall compares to Mike Minor?
Anyone have any insight?
