David Ross is really underappreciated

In the interest of giving credit where credit is due, Braves nation owes a major applause for the work David Ross has put in thus far.
When it comes to offense the 2009 Braves are clearly lacking. Their best hitter Chipper Jones is out of the lineup a lot, and Brian McCann has been plagued with an eye problem all year.
Casey Kotchman has been hitting clean up. Yeah, let that soak in your brain for a second.
The play of Ross has some even talking about the possibility of Heap (McCann) playing left field or first base while he adjusts to the new glasses and gets ready to hit major league pitching again.
Although this young season has been quite rocky in Atlanta, the play of guys like Ross, Infante, and Jurrjens could make even the most pessimistic of fans smile. Throw in a Jeff Francoeur who is doing much better and the Braves might be able to do more than contend for third in the NL East.
As far as Ross is concerned, this is a wonderful audition for him. There are many teams out there that could possibly contend and need catching help. If Ross keeps up the good performance he will have considerable trade deadline period value. I would not be surprised if a move were made involving Ross at that time.

Ross is going no where
Look Ross is a back up catcher with some pop and yes there will be some interest from other clubs but we really don’t have anyone in the system that can do the job if Mac goes out for any extended period of time. Ross was a nice insurance policy for Mac and has already paid off. No need to create another hole when we have someone that can fill in and not be a Corky blackhole in the lineup.
Heap will never play left or 1B in the immediate future so that idea is just a wet dream. We will have be patient the next 2 weeks to see if super girl GA can actually hit till we go out and make move for a powerhitting LFer. Luke/Byrd/Murphy/Cust/Holliday/Mags/Lee to name a few potential trade options as teams figure out where they stand as contenders or pretenders.
The bottom line is that we need a Bat or this team will be a barely a .500 team looking up in the division at the Met/Phills/Fish in 4th place. SP/BP can only get us so far into games and till we can put up 4-5 runs per night than this team will be frustrating to watch to go through there hitting struggles.

Ross should stay.
I don’t think Ross is under appreciated. Have the Braves given Clint Sammons any playing time? Not really. Ross is the kind of back up that other teams would like to have sure, but I’m glad that he is a Brave.

Ross Stays
David Ross has been a PIMP this year, and we could never get on the market what he is worth to US.
Do you remember last year at all? Do you remember the abject fear you felt everytime they announced the lineup and corky miller was catching? I dont have any stats for this, but I think we were 0-30 in those games.
Ross is one of my MVP’s so far this season, and I am loving having a reliable backup catcher.

We could have done a lot worse in a back up catcher.........
Ross has worked out well with Mac having to be on the DL..I hope we hold on to him. The guy is good behind the plate and is not half bad with the bat. I feel he would be good to come off the bench as a pinch hitter or to come in to give Mac a break especially in the heat of the summer.
I agree Ross could start on many clubs. We lucked out when we got him. I say keep him for now…

I love Ross. At the beginning of the offseason the first thing i was calling for was a backup caterh for McCann.
The only problem is that instead of our backup catcher being an automatic out like last year this year its Schafer

You realize Schafer has like the 2nd best OBP on the team, right? Pretty much the opposite of an automatic out.

I guess i should have said Automatic out when he is needed the most.

can’t argue with you there…2 singles in 23 ABs with RISP. 7 walks, but i’m pretty sure some of those are IBB to get to the pitcher

I’d love to know how said Heap might be playing 1B or LF, because that’s just a terrible idea.

it has been heavily talked about, however it’s only really something that should happen if his eye remains an issue.
