Atlanta Braves Minor League Recaps: 5/7
Syracuse 0, Gwinnett 4
- G. Blanco 2-3 2B, BB, K
- B. McCann 1-3 2B, RBI, BB
- V. Pope 1-1 HR(2), 2 RBI
A nice start by Jerome Gamble in this game and then a subsequent pickup by the bullpen. Five of Gwinnett's 9 hits were for extra bases including a double by McCann. Hopefully if he is making solid contact that is an indication that he can see well. I guess we will know more in the next day or so.
Tennessee 4, Mississippi 5 - Game 1 - Final in 12 Innings
- T. Jones 3-3 2B, 2BB, CS
- B. Hicks 3-5 2 RBI, K
So this was supposed to be a 7 innings game and they went into extreme extra innings and the second game is just starting as I write this. So I won't be posting on it tonight. Nice to see Travis Jones hitting though. He is up to .306 on the season.
Myrtle Beach 5, Lynchburg 6 - Game 1 - Final in 8 Innings
- F. Freeman 2-4 2B, 2 RBI
- C. Johnson 2-3 2B, BB
Another double header game going into extra innings here. Freddie Freeman gets off the snide a little with a solid performance. Cody Johnson now has a batting AVG even with Jason Heyward. He is obviously the better prospect.
Myrtle Beach 4, Lynchburg 5 - Game 2 - 7 Innings
- F. Freeman 2-4 RBI, 2K
- J. Owings 1-3 2B
- J. Locke 5IP 11H 5R 1BB 2K
The bad Jeff Locke showed up for this game. He also tossed in a wild pitch to cap off the outing. He is so schizo from game to game. I think Locke may be one of our biggest trade chips this summer if we go get someone. Just a gut feeling on it. Still some good things to take from the game with Freeman collecting 4 hits on the day and Cody Johnson did not strike out in either game. His AVG is now 3 points higher than Heyward's who went 1-8 on the day.
Lexington 0, Rome 1
- G. Rodriguez 2-4 HR(6), K
- B. DeVall 5IP 2H 0R 1BB 6K
- P. Clemens 3IP 2H 0R 0BB 5K
Nice outings by both DeVall and Clemens. I really like seeing Clemens not giving up any walks. Although his hits allowed this season have been crazy high. Either way, excellent game all around for both pitchers.

Nice to see Freeman get some hits. He’s really struggled against the lefties, but he’s had some rough luck too. I was looking at his splits the other day, and he was only like 3-9 on line drives. And at that level he should be hitting at least like .700 on line drives. And even with his slow start, if you gave him a couple of those hits on liners that were probably right at someone it evened out. Now he just needs to start learning to hit lefties.
Also, great to see Travis Jones hitting, it seems like he was trying to get over the Mendoza line a couple weeks ago and suddenly he’s hitting .300.
And Gwinnett’s pitching is just ridiculous. If they start scoring some runs for these guys they’re going to win a ton of games. Now Gamble is pitching lights out? That’s not even fair.
Tommy Hanson 4 ROY
Is Travis Jones a legit prospect? I’d love to see him at the ML level some day…he played for my alma mater while I was going there.
