Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks, May 30, 2009 4:10 PM EDT
After winning last night, despite Jair Jurrjens' worst start of the season, the Braves will look to continue their winning streak (currently at 1 game) with Javier Vazquez on the mound. Vazquez lost his last start, but he did pitch very effectively against these same Diamondbacks on the 15th, allowing just 2 earned runs in 7 innings, en route to a no decision.
The Snakes will counter with well traveled lefty Doug Davis, who has lost his last 3 decisions. All things being equal, Davis really hasn't pitched that poorly this season, but he's never been a guy who's been much better than a .500 pitcher. I'm starting to see why the Diamondbacks have been so bad this season though; two weeks ago I saw Arizona's AA Mobile team, and three of the players who appeared in last night's contest, Gerardo Parra, Daniel Schlereth, and Clay Zavada, where all there. That's a lot of players coming right up from AA. Of course, having a manager who's never manged, at any level of baseball, and who wasn't that great of a player himself, probably doesn't help either.

Chad Tracy is on the DL. As a result, Reynolds is playing first and Roberts is playing third base. They also don’t have Chris Young. Neither of those guys are big losses for the Diamondbacks.
The big thing is that they have Felipe Lopez back, instead of any three crappy back-up options.

Airing some thoughts
However bad our offence has been, im still suprised we aren’t doing even worse. Just something i noticed today was that while everyone has been rightly talking about our real and crippling lack of power, we boast a lineup today that has no player hitting over .300 I know average isn’t everything but to have NO player hitting .300 in your lineup is really shocking.
Not sure what my point is. I think its along the lines of being depressed that like in recent years if a few parts of this team were a bit better we would be doing a whole lot better. But then if my aunt had balls she’d be my uncle. Go Braves and please let us finally pick up our game against the awful Westie Teams

a guy doesnt go from getting out of a bases-loaded jam via 2 Ks and then just lose it…he isnt pitching badly. He gave up the double which hurt, but other than that, an infield single, passed ball and single. not walking people and definitely striking them out…i think i would still leave him in.

Why didn’t we play “no doubles” in the 11th? Late innings, don’t want an extra base hit to hurt you. I don’t know, it makes sense to me… what ya’ll think?
And Bennett made pretty good pitches. Reynolds was able to hit a good pitch into a 2B, and the little dribbler hit by Byrnes would’ve been a routine groundball… alas, the Braves lost.
